I appreciate the suggestion. I will keep this in mind. Looks like summit has some adjustable ones as well for cheap. It probably be better to fill it back in with some plate though. Not sure how I want to tackle that just yet

    Thanks man!

Shift boot for the rear case came in. This is out of an A/T FJ cruiser. Probably will take some modification to the wire to fit nicely, but it’s a perfect color match for the front one:D

I have my old 6speed boot if you want it. Condition isn't as good as what you got, but the stitching would match. Wire has been removed.

Well I’ve been trying to track down a slow leak between the back of the crawl box and front of the AWD case. Then I realized last night that I didn’t use RTV between the two during mockup 6 months ago, so back out with everything:bananadead:

got it all out last night in about 2 hrs and pulled the back case and sealed it up. Need to hammer the floor some, cut around the rear shifter a little, and make sure everything still works. Hope to have her back and driving by this evening

Damn that sucks but I guess you get to fine tune things a bit in the process. You might qualify for the F1 pit crew transmission change team!

Yeah I wasn’t too thrilled to be pulling it back out so soon, but like you said, I did get to dial in a few other things at the same time, so it wasn’t all bad. Just stabbed it back in the truck, working on reassembly now!

Changed out some older t-case position sensors for ones out of an fj cruiser. Just need to do some research and try to find the female plug for the fj harness now

That leak was there to make sure you took care of the other punch list items that would have annoyed you to the end.

It was a good opportunity to bash the floor some more and deal with the sensors. Just wrapped up a bit ago. Waiting a few more hours to fill with gear oil and it’s job done

Well I did some research last night and it looks like I installed sensors from both an A/T and M/T fj cruiser lol. I guess I should’ve researched before just installing what I had in a box. Anywho, I did some looking and I think I’m going to just buy some Tacoma position sensors since I already have all the wiring and pigtails for them with my spare 1GR wire harness. So the dash lights will have to wait until i drop the trans again bc I don’t want to do that anytime soon.
    upload_2023-8-6_11-34-59.jpg

I ordered a full size spare finally so I am prepping and painting an extra wheel I have for that so they all match. Eventually I will start doing a 5 tire rotation, but that will have to wait until I get a new set of tires

Those sensors just too obscure to reach while the trans is in the tunnel, eh?

Might be able to sag down the back of the trans. I’ll probably give that a try before dropping it all

yeah, all is good. Got in to tuning using Vf tuner. Taking a break from wrenching for a bit.

Got my full size spare installed today. I’m going to try and not use it until I buy a new set of tires and then it will be in a 5 tire rotation. The leak is now sorted between the rear cases, but after driving the truck more today I realized I have a driveline vibration under hard acceleration only. The guys at Tom woods told me I’d probably need some 3* axle shims but I wanted to see how it was before ordering them. Got some on order so we’ll see if that helps. Angle at the rear pinion doesn’t look happy though.
    IMG_9742.jpg
    IMG_9744.jpg

Per their website the angle between the rear driveshaft and rear pinion should be minimal. My driveshaft angle is 9.2* and rear pinion is 4.6* so I have a total difference/working angle of 4.6*.

Here’s the preliminary mockup for sealing up the floor. The metal frame for this toyota boot interferes with mounting brackets on both sides of the console and the floor is not level in this area, so this could be a challenge to make it look nice. The plan is to form this to the floor and secure it. Then I’ll use some foam stripping near the back edge to seal that and build a bracket to go from the right rear fastener location to the bracket for the e-brake cable. The issues I’m trying to overcome here are that the e-brake cable needs to be able to move freely and slide under the back 1/4” of the boot. The boot also needs to form over the top of the cable on the right side near the middle. Still waiting on the console to come in and then I’ll start finalizing everything and relocating the shifter handle. I also ordered an NST water pump/fan pulley for the 2.7. That will take about 3-4 months to make but the ball is rolling on that. Hopefully the OE motor hangs on till then so I get a chance to try it out!
