I bought a Tundra after my Taco was totaled and I check in on this forum twice a week just for this project.

Okay guys I buttoned up the engine bay and pumped the brakes today. Pushed the button, the ignition lights come on, fuel pump primes but it does nothing when I hold the brake and push to start. I hooked up my scan tool and here is what I got. The only one that stands out to me is the smart key oscillator open circuit. What do you guys think? I am calling it a day and likely will start tracing the smart oscillator tomorrow.

I think you are on the right track as for the code that’s stopping you from getting it running.

Maybe it's as simple as you forgot to plug something in:anonymous:

Well for starters, it would probably help if I had it plugged in. I had no idea this guy was tucked underneath the center console lol

Okay that didn't fix it. I ran the scan again and found a bunch engine trouble codes. Given the fact that the engine ran fine prior to the teardown, I suspect the system needs to be initialized. I think I saw something about it in the repair manual I'll read about it tomorrow.

I developed a module if you’re interested in getting the temperature gauge working on your Tacoma. Also as long as the AC module needs to see the exact same signal as the cluster it may work for that also too. The module receives a signal from a resistive coolant temp sensor and sends a specific PWM signals with a duty cycle that varies with temperature to the cluster for 2005-2011 Tacoma’s. It can be setup to read the signal from a VW TDI coolant temp sensor or to work with a 1/8” npt temperature sensor. I’ve used the temp conversion module over 30,000km with a VW diesel in my 2005 Tacoma and it works great. These are available for purchase for $200 CAD if setup for a VW TDI BHW coolant temp sensor or $250 CAD if setup and shipped with a 1/8” NPT sensor with 10‘ leads. Shipping is included in the price.

Very cool, I may be interested when the time comes. We'll talk details when I get to the climate controls.

This is probably stupid to ask, but do your brake lights work when you hit the brake pedal?

when I supercharged the RC350, I fucked up my harness to where the brake switch wasn’t receiving power unless the headlights were on. Without the headlights on, I had your same symptoms. Granted, not a lot of your codes, but it’s worth double checking. I went through hell trying to fix that issue. There’s so many reasons it couldn’t be starting.

can you double check your connections on the certification ECU?

Yes, I checked the brake lights on Monday when I put the battery in. And double checked all the ecu plugs tonight.

Since you plugged in that part, did that particular code go away? And now you’re just left with engine codes?
