As soon as my paint started flaking off, driver door and rear driver side door along the weather striping. Also along both fenders under the hood. I stopped washing the truck. Toyota blamed the car washing for the failure. Btw, the truck was only washed twice before the paint starting failing, with in 8 months of taking possession. 2017 dclb, toyota told me to pound sand. The dealer, the dealers body shop and Toyota corporate.

I don't believe that is correct. The ice cap is still 040 single stage white paint. The touch up bottle for super white and ice cap is exactly the same product too. Perhaps you are thinking of the other new "white" Toyota color, Wind Chill Pearl, which is code 089 and has a base coat and a clear coat applied separately.

That's what I had thought too - 040 Ice Cap is just a renamed Super White. WCP is an off-white

Anyone hear anything about the 040 white paint peel/flaking to becoming a recall?

What happened to the "I know a guy that knows a guy @Toyota" to get this onboard for a fix?

Please let us know if you find anything out. Even a 50% cost would be better than nothing.

My 2017 has started. I haven't looked for any other spots yet. A guy at the Toyota body shop told me the same thing about other models being recognized as having the paint issues, but not the Tacomas. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just decal over it.

That’s a new spot. Slapping a decal on or putting a wrap on is a good idea, but I would worry about what it’s going to do to the paint when it gets peeled off. When I pulled off the tape inside my hood area after priming and painting I pulled up a large section of original paint.

Actually what was written is accurate. Tacoma is the only model not being remedied for this paint issue.

I figured if I ever pulled the decal off, I would deal with it then.

I have a question regarding my 06 Tacoma white paint flaking (sorry if I am not posting this in the correct manner) I've got several areas on my hood, some as large as a dime, most smaller areas of flaking. The gray undercoat is what shows. Question: How can I backfill these areas of missing paint to then try spraying with paint so hopefully it will look better?
Bondo? If not, what other kind of filler? Something on Amazon?

My wife's 2017 has had the paint falling off in the usual spots and like many of you I was pretty fed up with it. Her truck is def not a show truck so take all this with that in mind. We park her truck in a spot that ends up being right out our side porch door so I see the paint falling off daily and recently decided to just take matters in my own (not very capable) hands. First I purchased paint from "American Touch Up" (because buy American made -hey I'm originally from New Zealand and I know buying local is the best way to spark the economy) https://americantouchup.com/product/automotive-spray-paint-primer-basecoat-clearcoat/

    https://www.amazon.com/American-Tou...+touch+up+paint+040+super+whit,aps,176&sr=8-6

I decided to start on the Drivers side fender as it's the most hidden and would allow me some time to figure it out a bit. Sanded - taped and then followed-ish the directions on the can's. What I wasn't prepared for with this is when I removed the painters tape it tore off more paint...on the fender, a part that would be seen. Also during this time our weather turned to 'cr@p' (San Diego in May) and got chilly and drizzled.. the end result was a hasty finish that left the clear coat a slight off tint. Barley noticeable unless you knew to look thou.

Yesterday I decided to tackle Passenger side rear door, I'm doing one at a time to try to learn as much as I can - this went well enough although the skies also 'spat some water from the gods' and I need to alter my tape lines as its left a faint 'primer line' on the edge (ill fix it later) but again the end result is a million times better than the peeling paint.

For $60 odd dollars and a bit of time this will make me feel a whole lot better about the looks of her truck -

Looks not bad. If they ever issue a recall does this impact it? Also, does your trucks vin start with a 3 or a 5?

2017 with 70k and no issues besides regular chips here and there. But mine is a Texas build. Really feel bad for a lot of 040 folks getting shafted. My mom has a 040 Camry that has been covered for paint defects multiple times. Bummer that they won't do right by the Tacomas.

Yes 3 and Baja made. Likely void everything but at this point Im not holding my breath with Toyota, unfortunately - at least from a distance this looks better than the flaking paint (in my world anyway) and as these spots are kinda 'hidden' (ie not middle of a door or something) unless you know to look you likely won't see them

When I contacted Toyota Corp about this they replied with something completely unrelated :anonymous:

Truck photo cause photos are cool : His and hers.....
