    I'm getting a humming/droning sound around 3000 RPM in my 2000 v6 4x4.

    • It sounds similar to the noise you hear when you drive over the grating on the side of the interstate.
    • The frequency of the drone is constant.
    • Its volume increases approaching 3000 RPM, and then decreases departing 3000 RPM.
    • I can reproduce the noise in any gear, including park.
    • I feel the vibration in the entire truck, but especially in the gas pedal.
Any ideas? I'm guessing its from somewhere in the engine since I can reproduce it in park...

first thought... your intake tube should look like this. That box off the top is an air resonator, peeps like to take them off.

Good thought! My intake does still have the resonator on it. I've been tempted to do that mod but didn't want to make my truck any louder than it already is.

Another bit of info I should probably add is that I didn't notice this issue until I started towing. When towing, I turn the overdrive gear off, which means I'm at 3000 RPMs when driving 65 MPH. Perhaps this noise is present on all v6 1st gen Tacos, but nobody ever hears it because they never get up to 3000 RPMs under normal driving conditions?

Being that it does it in park, get yourself an automotive stethoscope and start listening to things. Bearings, pullies, etc..
