I’ve been advised to replace my strut assemblies on the Double Cab Prerunner with 4Runner struts because of the heavier double cab. Does anyone have any thoughts/advice on this?

First of all, these folks will tell you they're COILOVERS and will probably be 2 pages worth

OME or Bilstein unless you want to fork $$ for Fox, Kings, etc

OME lift. ARB bumper. Trans cooler, pillar pods, Alpine stereo, backup cam, LED headlights, Fog lights. Window tint.
Have the OME suspension under mine with the heavier coils. Been very happy with them. 100K plus

Are you working with a shop to do this work? If so, and they are suggesting Monroe products (Monroe calls their coilover assemblies "quick struts" but they are in fact coilover assemblies), stay clear of the Monroe junk. It's easy for the shop to just swap in those preassembed coilovers, but the quality and life span of them is garbage. What you want is a Bilstein 4600 shock with a new coil spring appropriate for a double cab. I believe some folks recently got some pre assembled units from suspension lifts or something like that. No matter what you do, keep that Monroe garbage away from your truck.

Edit: I am not saying you should buy these, as I don't personally have any experience with the company, but this is close to what you're looking for: https://www.suspensionlifts.com/sho...prings-coilovers-for-1995-2004-toyota-tacoma/

Also, be aware that shocks have life spans of about 50k. After that point you'll need to change out the shocks (not the coil springs). The coil springs are good for 150-200, but do sag over that time.

Are you currently running any lift or larger than stock sized tires? Or any plans to go that route?

If no lift and stock tire size, then what @Andy01DblCabTacoma said above is exactly the info you'll want - Bilstein 4600s with new coil springs
