What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Redid my water system....again. The spigot on the rotopax is nice!

 

Can you store that at 45* greater than current, spigot down, on the rotopax mount?

 

Anyone have any experience with these water systems? Seem like a sweet set up, and I like that I can easily dismount it and use it away from my truck. Taking an rv trip in a month and this would be handy to bring along.

Not really, but from observation - only their 2 gallon system will fit in a Tacoma with the bed rail mount. I like that the sprayer portion is self-contained so it doesn't require submersion of an in-tank pump, or hard mounting of an external tank pump, but that also has the drawback of being a proprietary charging/battery system. I really really like the "rain collection" aspect of using the entire long side of the tank as a graduated funnel system.

Having said that, I prefer my DIY implementation vs it, even with an in-tank pump. It's 5 gallons, it straps easily in place, I just used it when I was out on a mountain in MO for washing/spraying/mess duties, and it kept up with me and two other people both washing our hair twice, and all our dishes, and I still had a gallon in it when I lit out for home 4 days later.

 

What did you use as a hard surface to patch the bigger hole(s) in the door?

home and can’t post the video. Mine is just a pump kit from Amazon with a cigarette lighter and container from walmart. I just drilled a hole in the top, ran the hose in (then used a hanger to grab the hose to put the filter and a big nut on it to sink the end). Then self tappered the pump to it. Works great, less than 75 dollars in it and it’s mobile since it’s a cigarette lighter end

 

I like mine a lot and really feel that it does make a significant difference. I liked it it so much I ended up buying the side window covers. The only down side is that it takes up a lot of space when not in use.

 

Honestly I didn't even use anything. I know it probably just material being wasted, but it made a huge difference.

 

It locks in at any setting. The Marine pump I have pulls like crazy so I think I'll be fine. But I might adjust the cant if I need to. I have a trip out this weekend and with the heat I will for sure be taking a shower in the evening.

 

Don’t forget to do the insides of the door cards. I just finished doing both my fronts and it makes a difference. Rears next.

I have the 8 gallon version incorporated with a 25 gallon tank.

The 25 gallon tank is located in the spare tire "bay" under the bed of the truck; the spare tire is on a swing out mounted to my hitch receiver.

I have the tanks plumbed so I can used them independently or together with a water pump for an RV.

The 8 gallon tank is mounted to a roof rack on my access cab; we have a RTT on the camper shell.

The 8 gallon tank never has water when we are on the road. If we can find water prior to the final leg of our journey to our remote camping destination we will fill it at that time. If this is not possible, we just pump water from the 25 gallon tank to the tank on the roof. The roof tank is essentially our hot water supply. We have a shower rigged up on the passenger side of the camper shell.

If both tanks are full, we can go for a week by being judicious with our water use; sponge baths and no full showers. Shorter stays allow full showers. We find that bathing is the item that will suck your water supply dry. It is much easier to deal with cooking/dish washing/drinking; just doing this allows us to go for much longer periods of time, but the trade off is not bathing and that is not something that we care to do.

l thought these thanks were reasonably priced. The only issue is the two male outlets on the tank that take standard hose type female connectors. They are not metal and, as a result, are quite easy to cross thread. As long as you are VERY careful when attaching something to them all is good; VERY easy to cross thread!!!

I also like the way the tank is mounted to the roof rack. It is locked for security and is quite easy to put on and take off (with the aforementioned caution about the connections). With our set up, everything is in place and stays there permanently. And, the way I set up the connections, I can disconnect the water lines without disturbing the threaded hose type connection at the tank. And no, I am not using quick connects; too much weight on the male outlets on the tank as far as I am concerned given all the washboard/gravel/dirt roads we encounter (we do not "wheel"; we go into the boonies for solitude, peace and quiet).

I heard that it's best to cover the hole with something hard and then sound deaden it.
I'm sure what you have is better than having the hole open, but the sound deadener might act like a lung and mess the quality a little.
Don't take my word for sure but that is something I've heard from someone that claims they are an expert lol. I will try to patch my hole with something when I get around to sound deadening!

 

It’s impossible to fully seal the door because of the window of course. Any speaker would sound so much better if it was possible, but it sadly isn’t. However, you are correct with using a hard cover, it will add more rigidity to the panel to cut down on loss of acoustical energy. My plan is to buy a big cheap 1/8 or 1/4 thick HDPE plastic cutting board from Walmart for each door, get them all cut out, and mount them with threaded inserts. I’m going to make a build page in the TW AV section so others can reference.

 

Gave him a washing and also spayed the box out !
