I'm not very satisfied with my OEM hitachis. They ride pretty well with a bunch of weight in the bed but, unloaded, are horrible. Bouncing all over the place with the shitty roads around here.

Are the hitachis worth replacing with Bilstein 4600s? Are there any other options in that price range?

Going to keep my truck stock height, just want a bit smoother suspension in the rear.

It's not the shocks, it's the leaf springs. Well, it's kinda both but new shocks alone won't do much.

You get 2 choices with a truck... You either get a smooth ride with an empty box, but shit payload capacity. Or good payload, but stiff ride with an empty box. Usually you want payload in a truck so the trick is to just keep weight in the back. I keep 300lbs in the back of mine for this reason, and that's even with high end adjustable suspension.

50# bag of sand will help if it’s too stiff in the rear end. I’d try this if you’re not looking for performance off road or lift

I really like the Eibach Pro Truck shocks, they are the black ones. I put some on my 2000 Regular Cab Prerunner, they perform really well. They are a little cheaper than the 4600's.
