I've decided I will change the oil at 1k, then again every 5k miles. With that said, I have a lot of oil. I mean a lot. Anyone here using the shell gas and truck 0w20 with good results in the 6 cylinder? I have over 30 gallons.
    Thanks

There are thousands of oil threads on this site.

TLDR: Use an SAE certified oil at the correct weight, keep your receipts for the oil, should be fine.

I did my first change at 3k and the oil was filthy.
Everyone will give you their opinion.......
Go for it if you have the oil.
Motivex oil change tools help a lot. OEM filter.
Cut down a 5 gal bucket to fit under your truck , because the 20 w is super runny and will splash all over a shallow tray.

I am a member of bobistheoilguy. Deals are listed. I paid like 7 dollars per 2.5 gallons. I also scores idemitsu 0w20, like 15 gallons, at 1.95 a gallon lol. Oh, and 10 gallons of Castrol 0w20, free. I also have about 20 gallons of shell rotella 15w40 syn, but that's not for the tacomer.

Just checked BITOG and don't see anything. If you know of any deals please PM me.

I think 1000 oil change is a good idea. New engines during breakin have more debris circulating.
Especially if you got it cheap or free. That's generally the limitation people set on OCI's; the cost of oil.
"I'm gonna ruin my $5k engine with 10k mi OCI's because I don't wanna buy a $12 5gal jug of oil, anyway I'll have the $50 kobe wagyu combo"

I have a 2nd gen that calls for 5w30 that I don't think is picky.
    I've ran 0w20, 0w30, 5w30, 0w40, 5w40, or mixes of it.
There have been times when I took half a jug of 0w20, poured in half a jug of 5w40, a can of BG MOA, and shook it.
The oil pump and engine also mix it.

One thing I'd be curious to try/see if it works is Shell Rotella T6 5w40. It's a good oil, higher in cleaning detergents due to being designed for diesel.
And decently priced. Probably better than regular M1.
people run it in motorcycles and gas cars all the time, to include old Audi's.

On a new engine I've always changed the oil and filter at less than 500 miles
There will be more metal floating around in the oil from initial surface wear in than there ever will.
Never hurts to use magnetic drain plugs as well. There will always be metal fuzz accumulate there.
    Every little bit helps.

    Yeah.
I don't think you can get 0W-20 in anything other than full synthetic.

Not with that attitude! You have to do a custom blend. My taco likes avocado oil and a touch of chili oil to keep things spicy
