Why is that such a trigger for people around here?

I don’t tow because I prefer the mountains over the water, thus no boat. Also no RV because I’m not 147 years old and my idea of camping isn’t in a parking lot.

I don’t go off road… much. Plenty of campsites down dirt roads, maybe a few creek bed crossings. Across the field and behind the woods at a deer camp, etc…. I bet a lot more people here use their trucks similarly than will admit. And you don’t need a lift or lockers for most stuff like that but you wouldn’t do it in a Camry either. I’m not into rock crawling or wheeling trails just for the sake of doing them. Just not my thing.

I do use my truck for commuting. About 350 miles a week. I like to be comfortable for that. I like to sit up a little higher for visibility. I like not feeling vulnerable in a tiny car. I also haul camping gear, mountain bikes, and often camp in the bed. Does that not justify truck ownership to the bro crowd?

What’s the deal with everyone whining about people who don’t use their trucks the way they think they should? Not meaning to just single you out but I see those comments on just about every thread around here. It’s a weird obsession for some.

No idea how I stumbled into this thread which includes EV vs ICE as well as apparently defining one’s own masculinity, but for what it’s worth….

Yes, traditional ICE has had its day & it’s been one hell of party, but….I don’t necessarily want to jump right into bed w a truck that weighs 8000lb’s, leaves me waiting in line to use a broken charger 100mi outside of Edmonton or Des Moines, and requires 20,000gal of water to put out a fire at an intersection, in my garage, or on a cargo ship crossing the Atlantic. Throw in strip mining lithium, inadequate grid…

Toyota’s tacit embrace of EV seems to indicate that they’re smart enough to know that maybe the correct answer forward is:

    C.) Fuel Cell

If it works for SpaceX, I’m totally cool with dropping a version in my next Tacoma or Corolla.

Given enough velocity, any car from any manufacturer could look like that in a crash.

Also I am sure everyone has seen this story. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/luck-tesla-family-plunged-cliff-rcna64547

So we are comparing two vehicles, none of which will be on the road for months. Another thread to ignore.
