What are the good trails around here? Besides everyone knowing Moab being far south, maybe slightly scenic but hard (I definitely want to go)

I've done Black Bear Pass and Imogene. Wondering if it's worth going back to either a) do again, or b) overland and do more
because when I went, it was for a day, and I regret not staying longer to do other ones in the Alpine Loop (poughkeepsie gulch, engineer pass, etc.)
    BUT, it's 7hr away...

    nearer to SLC,
my point is, is there other good similar trails closer by worth doing?
-technical enough to be fun, maybe shit your pants a bit, but not so much that you need a dedicated trail rig
-scenic, because what's the point of rock crawling and no view
    etc

I like the part of Canyonlands that's west of the Green River.

Here's some stuff to get you started. Use Google Earth to get an idea of where I'm writing about.

Millard campground (only one site though and it's on the Green river about 70 miles from the nearest pavement. Extremely isolated, 4WD drive required along some areas

Poison Springs road starting at UT 95, going east across the Dirty Devil river (or rather "stream" 'cause it's dry most of the summer and continuing east into North Hatch Canyon, Sunset campground and then into Canyonlands, 4WD drive recommended along a couple short stretches, high clearance highly recommended

The southern entrance to Canyonlands starting at UT 95 south of the Dirty Devil river bridge and north of the Colorado river bridge.

The northern entrance to Canyonlands - take UT 24 from I-70 south and turn east just south of the entrance to Goblin Valley State Park

Anywhere in the Henry Mountains (south of Hanksville) 2WD high clearance from July to November

"The Dollhouse" in Canyonlands from the Flint Trail

Flint Trail (amazing views and requires 4WD), come in from the previously described north entrance

All of these need at least one day in and one day out (minimum). None of these are anything like Black Bear in Colorado.

Anywhere along Skyline Drive - you can start at Convulsion road on I-70 that's a bit east of Salina (Utah), I think the name of the road is Salina Creek. It goes almost due north and rises to 10,500 feet. Doable with 2WD but I would use 4WD "just in case" - very pretty, best traveled in October (but it does get somewhat cold then)

Farther west, take a look at the road leading west out of Gandy, Utah and going up and over to Nevada (Road 468, I believe). This is extremely isolated but goes up to 10,000 feet and is north of Mt. Moriah, also a very nice place to visit.

    Hope this helps.

    it does thank you

I tried to get up to Thurston Peak as I heard it’s dangerous (good)

but apparently despite saying online it’s open and to proceed at your own risk (as one should)
The gate at the bottom was locked closed due to “snow”

it was the first trail I found online to head up from the base of the mountains nearby

I see a deer path going north-south below the summit on the west side, but other than that I can't see any trails that go to the top. Or anywhere in that area for that matter. I'm using Google Earth to look at the Thurston peak that's northwest of SLC.

There's a road that supposedly goes up it, with a big closed gate.
I came across a page, maybe Kaysville county gov website that it falls under, listing current status, but unfortunately lost the link. To try and check if that gate is open or not.
I was told however by a local that supposedly in the past it tends to open at the end of May, and is kept closed so long as there is still snow to I guess prevent people from getting themselves stuck and calling for recovery.
Not sure if it is open now, or if that road actually leads all the way to the top hopefully turning into an actual 4x4 OHV trail at some point

Lots of nice trails in CL NP. Skeezix has some great recommendations and obviously gets around, I've ridden almost all the places he's mentioned on my motorcycles and often thought of bringing the Tacoma out there, by far the most common vehicle I see in Western CLNP, almost 2:1 to the other brands. Some of it's extremely remote. Dollhouse, Flint Trail, Poison Springs, Top Of the World, Black Dragon Wash

Another challenging trail is the Elephant Hill heading into the Devil's kitchen in the Needles district.
