Is it worth it to add a transmission cooler, living here in Texas with over 100 degrees plus in summer

Truck runs a lot better in the am than late afternoon when it’s 100 plus

Are you towing near max 6500 pound rating in this 109 degree heat?

If not, then in all reality you don't need a trans cooler.

Before spending the money, grab a Bluetooth OBD monitor and watch your trans temps. I betcha that it's not overheating. Not even in this horrible summer.

I was just curious, I am not towing anything but I do have the torque Overland Tune. Do all newer Tacoma’s come with mini cooler ? I would think so

My 2018 has the external cooler. From what I read they started phasing it out in 20-twenty-something. The engineers up high determined that it wasn't necessary.

Being tuned won't affect trans temps much. If anything, most tunes reduce gear hunting, which in turn will reduce temperature related stresses.

I'm in phx and we were averaging 115 back in July. I never noticed any issues with my transmission. I've always been more aware of my tires than anything else in the heat.
Here in August, we're still 105+, it's no big deal.

If you do not tow anything, use your funds for a Yeti hard cooler and ice to carry while traveling. Also, please throw away the Yeti sticker that comes with the cooler instead of placing the sticker on your back glass!

You still have a trans cooler integrated into the radiator I believe

There are kits out there. Hayden makes a good one. I am not sure if the ports for plumbing are still on transmissions without coolers, though.

Still, that's a bridge to cross if you ever decide to join my insanity of camping in the hill country in the middle of summer.

It is HOT in the hill country this summer. Guadalupe river is only knee high (if that) in most spots near New Braunfels. I did see some water on the Frío near Concan earlier this week (see pic).

My friends back east rag on me because they say we don't have 4 seasons in Phoenix.
Oh, but we do and they are as follows:

    Cooler
    Hot
    OMG Hot
    WTF Hot

July was WTF Hot the entire month with temps at 110~118 every day.
    It's presently a brisk 97 at 8:45 pm and I'm thinking I need a sweater....

Or better yet, forget the ice and buy a Dometic CFX3 35 and couple that with a Jackery 1000 Pro...
Taking my new setup out for a test-spin mid September. In-house testing of the setup is daum impressive.

Don't forget to tell him that setup will run him about $1,900 with the Jackery. I have the Jackery 500 and I damn near had a heart attack spending what I did on that lol.

I think it's a good idea, even if it's just for peace of mind. They range from 60 to like 200 bucks, so really it's worth it just for that. Will it make a huge difference probably not, will you feel better about it, absolutely. I just installed one over the weekend because our temps here in FL are hot, hot and wet,
hot miserable yogurt when you walk outside and Satans taint hot with a side of cream cheese. In some other areas the temps are higher, they just don't have the heavy humid air that we have. The air is so heavy it makes you tired. And if theres a breeze it's like a convection oven. Man, I just went off there, apologies. Anyways, look at these pics reflecting the difference in volume between aftermarket and stock. You can see the difference in the tube size and fin spacing. I believe that leads to better cooling. I did a simple install to a switch, no temp settings.

Seriously. this summer has been pretty shitty as far as monsoon goes. I would still prefer this over that humidity they get back east though.
