I understand that this is not a question about a Tacoma, but I do have a question for all of you out there, it goes like this my 01 Camry has 206,000 miles on it it's one owner which I know that doesn't make a difference, check engine light comes on shows code that EGR valve is stuck open. I forget if it's p402 the code I think that's it but anyhow I have replaced the EGR valve the EGR control module the vacuum switching valve the gas cap and I don't know where to go from here when I shut off the light with my OBD2 code reader, get up to about 45 miles an hour I feel a little hiccup the light comes on and a very very low speeds it kind of surges a little bit kind of bucks a little bit when you get it between 1,000 and 2,000 RPM in first gear say just trying to hold it steady right about 1500 RPM it bucks and stuff if this was not computer controlled I would know how to fix it. Had three mechanics look at it they can't figure it out have had the big old Snap-on diagnostic machine on it said that the gr valve was open, also said all exhaust readings and everything are that of basically a new engine. Just curious if anybody has had such a thing happen to them before sorry this is not a Tacoma question I have no problems with my Tacoma except I'm too big and fat for it! Anyway just would be curious to get any insights get steered in some direction that might help me figure this out thank you Jeff

The passages that the egr system goes through could be clogged.

The first time we had the EGR valve off the new one that is, I ran a piece of wire down it and you know to make sure it wasn't blocked or anything where it goes into the engine there there wasn't anything plugging it either, this thing is driving me out of my mind I thank you for your input.

I'm almost to the point where I'm wondering if my favorite Sledgehammer will fix this car! This is the first vehicle I have had in years that actually hates me! And believe me I can tell I've been mechanic for over 40 years.

I'd block it off for a week and see how it behaves.

Coke can gasket with no exhaust hole works great for this.

I don't deal with EGR often, and its making a comeback with all of Toyotas new models.

My grandma had one of these with only 30k on it, I should have kept it, but we sold it to a family friend. Lilac coloured. Bleh.

Did you change the modulation valve?
Are you sure the hose routing is correct?

Sounds like when the car gets up to egr temp she hits wide open the min you touch the gas.

A pic would help of the egr and components
