I’ve got a 2016 Limited taco with stock shocks I believe the Hitachi if I’m not mistaken. Found a good deal on a set of 4600 Bilstein shocks TRD OF and not sure if it’s even worth the time to mess with if it doesn’t make a difference in feel. I know your all going to say go with the 5100:facepalm:. Just looking to see if anyone has done the 4600 swap?

I have not done the swap. It sounds like a waste of time unless your current shocks are totally shot and you can't afford brand new shocks.

Unless the owner can somehow prove to you they’re nearly brand new, I wouldn’t.
The OR shocks are softer, so that’s subjective if the ride will be better or worse to you.

you could always go test drive an OR,, if you can get in and out quickly,, but Johnny Salesguy might chew up more time than it takes to install them :D

i posted this same exact question a couple days ago in the suspension section. people said it wouldn't make a difference and to put more weight in the bed. not sure i completely agree.

Actual bilstien 4600's ride quite plush, and handle abuse better than most stock OEM shocks.

They look just like OR shocks but are better in my opinion.

I always try to coax people to go 4600 if staying stock.

you're the first person to say it's worth it. the hitachi's are alright if you have several hundred pounds of weight in the bed. but my SR rides like a dump truck when empty and hops all over the road. i like having the ability to haul stuff, but i'm not hauling all the time.

I just switched out my 5 yr old stock 2018 TRD OR yellow (apparently not 4600s) for 5100s and the ride is night and day better on and off road

First person I’ve seen call it a dump truck ride and as someone who drives dump trucks it’s certainly not. I’d agree with other’s / TRD sport owners and say the hitachi’s ride stiff but confidently stiff kinda like a sports car, definitely not like walking beam or rubber block suspension stiff.

Limited owner here, if you can do it yourself the time it takes to mess with it isn’t something to consider, easy job if the front coils are assembled. Rears don’t require removing tires or anything so they’re 10 minutes a side. I messed with my lift when I first got it to the point of I can have both sides out and back in in under an hour with a floor Jack and stands.

If you don’t take your truck on anything more advanced then a smooth dirt road then you won’t feel a difference. Hell I don’t feel a difference going from hitachi’s to 5100’s and 2888’s on my daily drive to work. Off-road the difference between hitachi and Bilstein is huge and well worth the money and time it takes.

the SR utility package has the "firmer" rear leafs because most are used as fleet trucks. so maybe it's my leafs making the ride so harsh unloaded.

so you think the 4600s will offer a better ride off-road as well as on the one-continuous-pothole roads around here in rural north carolina?

Ive got Billy4600 on my stock height truck. I have a 2021 TRDOR and replaced the stock Billy's with 4600s and am happy I did. Ride seems softer, more planted, and handles my topper and tools better. They're significantly thicker than OEM shocks. Im glad I did it.

All four got replaced. Plus I should state that my stock rears were leaking fluid around the shafts.

Do you get the nose drive on hard stops with the 4600?
