Thanks! I decided to put a Leupold mk5hd on this one since they are about 8 oz lighter.

So update on the M5 build saga. I completed my final testing today.

After replacing more Aero parts the gun is finally running reliably un surpessed. The Criterion barrel did solve the out of spec headspacing on the Aero barrel and resolved the failure to feed cycle issues. Changes to the buffer system further improved the cycle unsurpressed. As I continued my testing I started to run into light strike/ no strike issues and ultimately had to replace the Aero firing pin with a JP Enterprise one. The aero firing pin appeared to have mushroomed and made itself a tiny hair shorter. JP titanium firing pin was an immediate fix to this problem. All said and done the rifle unsurpressed now cycles and functions reliably across the 308 spectrum from 147 gr ball up to 175gr M118LR

    Original parts
    Aero M5 lower
    Aero LPK
Aero enhanced buffer tube carbine length
Aero buffer/spring (Aero m5 kit comes with light buffer)
    Larue trigger
    Aero complete upper
18 inch stainless barrel rifle length gas system
    SA adj gas block
    Aero BCG
    Aero Charging handle

    Parts now
    Aero M5 lower and lpk
Heavy buffers dot com 8.2 oz buffer and spring set
    A5 buffer tube
    Larue trigger
    Aero M5 upper
Aero bolt carrier(Aero bolt and firing pin both replaced)
Fulton Armory Bolt headspaced to Criterion barrel
    JP Enterprise firing pin
Criterion DPMS barrel 16 inch mid length gas system
    SA adj gas block

    Suppressed
Remaining issues. This part is 100% on me, but not related to the original failures un suppressed.
In my haste to replace the out of spec factory aero barrel I grabbed a Criterion with a mid length gas system. I've tried my best to tune it with the adj gas block. I can get it to cycle 2 clicks from fully closed but only with under powered 147gr. 168-175 I can't restrict gas enough for a reliable cycle process.

Please note the suppressor did not clear the ATF until long after the Aero barrel was replaced so the non suppressed QC issues were just that and had nothing to do with the can.

Ultimately I will likely be keeping this rifle as it appears the gremlins are sorted with all critical to the operation parts replaced with non aero parts. Eventually I will replace this barrel with a barrel better gassed for suppressed use. I'm in the middle of a custom 300PRC bolt action build right now so funds are going towards that at the moment.

Also in a surprising twist S&B 168gr otm is the preferred ammo for this barrel. 100yrd group. Out performed FGMM 168 +175 norma 175 hornady eld 168gr and IMI 175 m118lr
    3eof70.jpg

Anyways that is my experience with this build(Aero CS) issues previously documented.

In my pre/post purchase research appears I'm not alone. In hindsight I kinda dismissed some forum posts etc and wish I saved up a little longer to buy a Larue, SOLGW, Lone Star Arms instead but I'm pot committed now and will see this through and eventually have a reliable rifle with or without the can on it.

Tips for those who want to avoid a similar circumstance but still enjoying the build process
Buy a stripped builders kit from Aero Lower/ upper/ handguard
Use non aero parts to finish build
Minimum A5 buffer length and 5.4 oz buffer
If possible buy bolt/BCG packaged with the barrel and headspace tested.
Adj gas block even if un surpessed
Even without the can I can still restrict the gas on mine and have reliable cycle

Hello everyone. It has been a long time since I started my Aero build, and it has ben some time since I finished it.....BUT, I finally was able to take it to the range and try it out.

I was pretty terrified as I have heard about guns blowing apart if they were not put together safely. I gave my wife my final instructions if things went wrong. I loaded one round to see what would happen. I was amazed how easy it was to fire, so I loaded two round! The bolt did cycle correctly, except it would not lock open after the final round. The range officer told me the tolerance if probably very close and needs to be broken in a bit. After 20 rounds the bolt did lock open so WHOOP WHOOP! The bolt would get stuck from time to time, but no major malfunctions, I guess I just have to fire it more often. The gun club we went to is having a sale on annual membership. As I have three things I need to break in, I might sign up for the annual membership, I do not know.

I tried to weigh her, but our food scale screamed under the weight and just told me she weighed "err", so there is that.

Here is the beautiful beast (in my opinion anyway) herself.

Great looking rifle! I built an Aero also it shoots great and eats any ammo I’ve tried so far. Hell I even hunted with it last year and harvested a couple of deer

I managed to pick up a BRN-10B so might as well show it here! Havent been able to shoot it yet as I had to order mags for it though. Did come with a different grip and a smaller rear sight which is kind of cool.

Funny how much lighter than my other AR-10 the BRN-10 is. Claimed weight is like 7lbs vs 12-13lbs (with scope and bipod though) of my current AR-10. (both unloaded, no mags). Guess I might have another build in the future...a modern lightweight ar-10

Has anyone ever worked with a Sun Devil lower? I am trying to build my first AR10 style rifle and I can't find much on my lower. Thank you for any assistance that can be given.

I have been building AR15's for years, but this is the first time I have attempted an AR10 platform.

What I have to start with is a Sun Devil billet lower. From what I have learned, and I could be wrong, is I need a DPMS style upper. Is this correct? I ordered a Bear Creek 18" upper with a mid length gas system. I hope it all works well.

There's roughly 2 types, kac/lmt/seekins/JP and everyone else. The rear line where the receivers mate is where you want to look.
