Any analysis/prognosis from yesterday?

 

Good morning, Rob. Nothing, yet. My MRI appointment was at 4:15 yesterday afternoon so I should hear something today or tomorrow. I know part of my issue is back-related, though. On the good side...I woke up this morning.

 

I suspected as much. Yes Sir, waking up sure as heck beats the alternative. Have a great day, Mark.

Broken tree all bucked up. Nice white oak. Didn't keep the firewood, tossed it back into the tree line. Wondered if the saw would start, haven't touched it for over a year. It did. Thanks Stihl. I'll service it and clean it up today. Hmmm. still has the same oil leak at the bottom. I'll take it back to the shop, see if they can fix it this time. pia

sixtys/wannabes/test results. All this medical talk reminds me that I still need to get the shingrix shot. I've heard a fair amount of stories about the aftermath being no fun so I've been making excuses. Maybe I need to just man up.

Speaking of Stihl, I was using the Stihl weedwacker the other day -- diabolical machines, every one of them -- and the engine would not reach full revs. First thought was the stupid wool air cleaner they use, but I pulled the cover and realized I had replaced it with foam rubber a long time ago. Muffler clogged? Yep. There's a spark arrestor inside the muffler exit, and it was packed pretty solid. I was surprised it ran at all in fact. In 50+ years of using 2-cycle engines that is the first time I have ever cleaned a spark arrestor.

 

So, I got the test results - haven't talked with my doctor, yet. Seems I have a bilateral right hip degenerative labral tear with associated paralabral cyst as well as a superimposed partial-thickness tear of my right hamstring. Golf is such a huge impact sport!! The cyst and other fluid around the tear is causing the pain and decrease in range of motion. Based on my quick Web MD analysis, my guess is that my doctor will put me on rest with steroids/anti-inflammatorys and add in some physical therapy. Don't think I'm at the surgery point, yet. I also have some lower back disk compression that explains the lower leg pain and difficulty sleeping at night.

We'll see what my doctor actually says when I talk with him.

 

Huh... and all I need to prevent a good nights rest is a random idea.

Is that the shingles vaccine? If so, I got 'em (2 part series 3 mos apart IIRC) about 3 yrs ago. I've had zero side effects.
We have to clean the spark arrestors on the Yamaha generators out at the cabin at least once a year ... makes a difference.

When you do bridge, suck that belly button to your spine. It's a pelvic tilt that protects your back. They are showing this on a massage table but do it on a hard floor. Lift your legs off the floor (heels three inches off the floor). If you can stick your hand under your lower back and the floor, stop! Tilt the pelvis, back on the floor. Zero gap. Now do your leg lifts.

Parkinson's and Dystonia suck, but boxing and yoga classes are critical for me. On the hip abductor, I don't have steps in my house. I use 2x4's.

Take it slow, build up over time. Working with a PT is recommended. Surgery is only a last resort.

 

Talked with my GP - who happens to be a family friend. He said nothing is too bad and all can be fixed - but felt it was time to see an Ortho specialist. There's an off chance that I've got capsulitis in the hip - the equivalent of a frozen shoulder - and he's never dealt with that before. I don't think it is - I've still got pretty decent range of motion...just pain. He did say he hasn't seen hips as worn as mine are without needing surgery. All that good Army training - sit-ups, squats, knee-benders and the 25 mile ruck marches in full gear in under 8 hours. AAAArrrrmmmmmyyyyy training!!!
