Had KDMax to start and it wasn’t exactly perfect for me. Loving OTT on my manual taco, but wishing I had kept oem throttle tip in. Don’t recommend medium, as it gives too many beans even with very sensitive throttle input.

I have an auto. I used to run OTT with the Spicy/Race setting. During winter, I definitely had to switch Mild/Medium. I have all three of the tunes by the different makers. Not running OTT now, but might need to put that back on the truck again and see what differences I find.

Thanks for all the replies folks, the info is all appreciated.

I've got a Tune/undercoating event being held here in Omaha this weekend, and @DamesAGTacoOR from OTT will be there so will hopefully get a chance to talk about things.

I don't have a dog in the fight (except i run kdmax 10), but there is no way kdmax is less power than stock. I've been modding cars (hobby, not professional) since 1998. I am fully aware that there are ways to trick yourself into believing you made power, but the difference is not small with that tune. Ott may be way better, but dyno sheets can be less than helpful. Just look at all the +15hp graphs you see for some of the more dubious bolt on garbage. I'm not saying there is anything shady going on, but I don't believe the stock vs kdmax comparison.

    A few.
I would go with the OTT then. I had an older version of the kdmax not the latest 10.0 version so I cant make a fair comparision between the two. But i can say Im happy with the current OTT i got a few days ago

Every vehicle is different but I can't believe this stock vs KDMAX tune someone felt no difference just not buying it. I have been on every KDMAX tune and all were improvements over the stock tune as I could always tell a difference and every updated tune just got better. I have had several muscle cars over the years with custom dyno tunes and can say a tuner can manipulate a dyno to read different numbers. Some dynos read lower. Keep in mind these numbers can be affected by heat, humidity how many pulls to get a great baseline and as much as tire tread. My drag slicks always showed a lower number so comparing between two tunes with little differences can be difficult. I have never been on a OTT tune but do hear good thing and if your into tuning cars and have a knowledgeable understanding of the parameters then I would like to think they may be close. I have been very happy with the KDMAX tunes and can only speak of their tunes. I think it boils down to competition as who wants to be the best and the way they market their tune.

I personally moved from stock to kdmax 9. The only difference I felt was the throttle sensitivity. But that is simply what the program in (light, medium, sport) and would essentially be no different than a pedal commander. My truck still wouldn’t hold 6th going down the flat highway. Still gear hunted in the slightest of inclines at speed. There was no difference for me outside of the sensitivity. I was shocked as were the guys at KDmax.

Just to be clear, downshifting on an incline is not the same as gear hunting.

I’m aware. The vehicle will upshift and downshift constantly on slight inclines and even flat highway depending on the conditions. It’s highly annoying. Was 10x worse when I was running an aftermarket exhaust too.

Why, I already have a tune from kdmax that I'm perfectly happy with and don't really care to change that.

I was just suggesting that for folks that want to know the difference between the two to drive a truck with each tune on it. I am sure each one has there pluses and minuses.

Bummer to hear about the latest KDMaxx. I had an older KDMAxx (whatever was around in like 2019 I wanna say) and then got a new truck with OTT in 2022. Kinda preferred KDMaxx as the OTT felt a little too “lurchy” in slower moving traffic/lower speeds.

No matter what tune you have the turner can usually get the lower speeds to your liking. Take it back to the tuner to have them reprogram it.

As someone who has ran the latest of both KDMax and OTT, I can weigh in here.
I had been running KDMax for a while, but I was swayed by the OTT Truth Be Told page on their website to give it a shot.
Those dyno runs are no joke. The power difference down low is immediately obvious.
KDMax felt like it just adjusted the throttle, and tackled the gear hunting issue by having the transmission hold gears longer before downshifting.
OTT not only increased power (sub 3000 RPM is great now), but the transmission tuning is a lot better at keeping you in the power band, and the shifts are undeniably smoother. Also, I’ve noticed the torque converter unlocks/locks in a more sophisticated way on OTT.
I’ve found OTT’s throttle sensitivity to be better - I used the lightest option on both.
It all adds up to a significant difference, and at this time, OTT is objectively the better tune.

So out of the 1,000+ kdmax customer. No one(outside of kdmax or ott) actually dynoed their own tacoma(before and after)?

    Thats funny.
