Decked drawers just don’t belong in a Taco. I had a set, I love the concept, they are well built. But they take up way too much space. Don’t you have L tracks mounted in your bed?

I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
New truck means new projects! Built a dog platform over the weekend, so that I can retain the use of the storage space, and to keep her from sliding around on the hard plastic surface.

She's gone from the cramped back seat of a second gen access cab, to the even more cramped back seat of a first gen extended cab, to the spacious back seat of a 3rd gen double cab. Needless to say that she feels like quite the princess now.

I didn't take any pictures of the build process, since there's a few posts covering that already, but here's the finished results.

Used a wire brush to clean up a couple old railway spikes I had laying around, to keep the back shut.

The old girl is getting grey in the muzzle, just like me, so I found a her a dog bed that fits perfectly.

Yep - steering wheel adjustment is pitiful. Maybe 1” total in/out and 1” total up/down adjustment.

The seat jackers definitely helped with the seating angle, but I still feel like I’m sitting too high in the cab. Wish I could lower the seat a few inches.

Man, nice work on that! I wonder if a slide bolt attached above would be a better permanent solution rather than the railroad spike. Although the spike looks way cooler!

Yeah I have tracks. I agree the decked just takes too much space, but for me Im just not sure if it would fit my "lifestyle". Fishing is my thing, so fishing rod storage, tackle storage, boating gear storage, and ice fishing gear storage would be needed. While a decked would work for most of that stuff, fishing rods would not fit, but the stuff that would fit in the drawers would take up a small corner in the bed without a decked.

Hmmm, I like the slide bolt idea.

I don't know if I'll keep the railway spikes. They look sharp, but they could do a lot of damage if they come loose in an accident (though so could my tool bag...).

I was going to use a couple of carabiners, but I went with what I had on hand. A couple of wooden wedges would work, too.

I was thinking carabiner as well, but you probably want to make sure that whatever you do that the back panel doesn't rattle if the method of securing is too loose. That would drive me crazy.

Ugh, I never even thought about the rattling. A bungee strap between the two would work, to. The wooden weddings would probably be the quietest. But the railway spikes are pretty snug, so I haven't heard any noise so far.

Never thought about that, I’ll have to hit up Fabzone and see if people have had any issues.

Added Tough Country neoprene seat covers front and rear. Nothing fancy but they’ll do as we often jump in and out with wet waders when fly fishing rivers and move to a new spot.
This video was helpful but doesn’t show what actually happens under the front seats.
    https://youtu.be/nI6-UPzuoxE

Navigating the straps around the mechanisms and cables under the front seats was time consuming. I can see why others removed the seats to install the covers. I wanted to make sure that I liked them before I go through that effort. I got them to work around the electric driver seat controls as shown in the video.
The rears were much easier. You do lose access to the seat belt buckle pockets in the rear original seats so you’ll have to fish them out after folding the seats back up. The straps on the rears run across the hard back surface. It will be left to be seen how they hold up over time after placing items on them.
    Overall OK for the price.

no offense intended, but you're in california. i know fabricators out there that literally leave stuff as bare metal because nothing rots. but for the rest country..

in the midwest, well, this was my last truck, and part of the reason i'm very happy to have a composite bed. keep in mind, the bed was fully primed and painted in the factory...

He’s in San Diego….near the ocean…..which is saltwater. Any untreated metal rusts quickly in that environment. I live on the coast also and my LCA’s need to wire brushed, treated, primed and painted already (under 3 years old).
With that said, I know you guys got it way worse than we do. They should make these things with carbon fiber frames.
