If your current truck is running fine I don’t see much point in trading up. What do you really gain other than a slightly different look and a higher car payment?

Depends really, I really like my truck and contemplating getting it tuned this weekend to see how that changes things. I like the looks of the new Tacoma, my only gripe is torque and mpg (which I'm not really that upset over with the rear end ratio in the truck being so short). If I could get +4 mpg and 50 extra lb-ft torque in the same equipment for $4,000 difference in MSRP I may get my feet wet.

Not really contemplating trading my truck now but just wondering who among the group would think about the move. It's a new truck with new powertrain . I like to wait especially after I bought one of the 1st 3rd gens that came out in 2016 and had many issues with it. My 2021 has been rock solid so far, no complaints

I would say it'll all depends on the pricing of the truck but looking at the new prices on the 2024 Tundras it's kind of scary what the prices would be for the new tacos

While I think the 3rd Gen is the perfect Goldilocks size, the new Tundras really aren’t that much bigger, they drive like a car too. Other than the massive grill, it is a nice truck. Spend more time inside it than I do outside looking at it.

Have a 1st Gen too, much prefer the 3rd, it goes everywhere that I took the 1st Gen, and a heck of a lot more comfortable. Be the same with the Tundra. Just need a Forest Service road cruiser. All the hard stuff is done on the bikes or hiking boots.

We just need one of each. :D The Tacoma makes more sense as a daily driver and the Tundra is better for weekend activities.

That would be the perfect world !. I am not too familiar with the Tundra forums but has the issues with the turbo been fixed?

Yeh, it was only a certain number of trucks not all of them. Any problems are from those ignoring the recall.

I’m still on the fence about 4th gen new vs 3rd gen used. I’d like a base model SR, but I just read that the 4th gen SR is detuned and has less horsepower. I want a 4x4 DC, kind of bummed about that.

I skipped out entirely on the 3rd gen mainly because of the gear hunting, and bought a stick shift car to wait until the 4th gen. Although, I am now getting impatient since they've given us zero additional info. I have test driven two 2023s being impatient

These are the heavy hitters that keep me waiting:
    - The new powertrain and supposedly a focus on drivability this time (tbd how good it feels)
    - Coil springs at the rear (tbd if the ride quality is improved a great amount)
    - All around dang good looking interior
    - Ventilated seats
    - TSS level 3 with active lane centering and Auto Vehicle Hold
    - Better seating position
    - Much more under seat storage volume that is now far easier to access

    And the little things:
    - Dedicated dimmer button again
    - More padding on the door panels
    - Digital gauge cluster
    - Drive modes (eco, normal, sport + offroad modes)

I'm going to stop here before I list every difference haha

Certainly the cabin in the new truck is a big plus also the sitting position, most likely one of the things I like the least in the current Gen

This is a solid post. The 4th gen has tons of things that I like that the 3rd gen does not have. And it appears, from all reports, it will be a much better driving machine.
It’s funny, you go to the 3rd gen board and everybody’s talking about how shitty their truck drives. The gear hunting and lack of power. To the point that you have to go get it tuned by some guy’s laptop to get it driving normal.

i’m in a tough spot. I have a 2nd gen with nearly 300k on it. I was planning on sending my kid off to college in that truck. The day before we left, it started dropping oil pressure for no obvious reason. I decided the hassle of him being two states away in a truck that might not be reliable anymore was too much. So I kept that truck at home and sent him off in my old cruiser instead. I was hoping to hold onto both of these vehicles until the 4th gen came out. But with my 2nd gen on its last legs I’m going to have to pull the trigger early and get a 2023 now. I like Tacomas as much as the next guy but I’m not planning on falling in love with this 3rd gen I’m about to get. I’m counting on it holding enough value to trade in a year later when I can get the hybrid 4th gen DCLB in the specs I want.

I understand that some people wake up in the morning and can’t be happy until they have something to be pissed off about. But I think it’s a pretty cool looking truck and I look forward to owning one.

If you are wanting the SR in MT then it looks like it will still be at 270 HP and 310 TQ.

How did the two 2023 models drive? Were they still gear hunting. I'm having the same dilemma. Feel like I should hold onto jeep. I was in the process of buying a 2015 Tacoma TRD pro, but decided to hold off on it. The amount of money after taxes out the door was basically the cost of a new truck.

The problem is all these dealers are asking over MSRP.

Hey that’s a good option, thanks! I didn’t realize. I was kind of considering one of those, all of my trucks before have been manuals. Not sure why Toyota would do that though. Why not keep them all the same?

Actually…my 3rd Gen might go to my wife in 3 years, and I upgrade to a Tundra or other full-size.

Know I talk of trading the 3G in, but keeping in the family might happen too. Kinda doing that now, totally sick of fussing with my 1G, but she wanted it, so we kept it. Not my problem anymore, but kinda still is…funny how that works.

Gear hunting is blown waaay out of proportion. Does mine do it? Yes, but only with the cruise control on. Flip it off can barely tell it shifts. If you drive like how I do, basically do the speed limit. No issues at all.

Power-wise, it is all relative. Coming off a 1st Gen, my 3rd blows its doors off. They both haul the same load. The 3G does it much better. More power than I’ll ever need or use. Run out of physical space to put stuff more than power, have yet to feel I need more. Have been driving Toyotas for 30+ years, their engines like to rev, this one is no exception. That said, typically cruise around under 2000 rpm.

    YMMV

Im considering trading my 20 for a 24. There are several reasons and a lot have been noted by others.
My 36 month warranty is up and I had not purchased an extended one. Not a big deal, I don’t normally buy them, if I get a 24 I will.
I like new and shiny things.
My truck has a gremlin and while it’s not shown its head in a while at least a year, I believe it’s still there just waiting. I’ve had several instances of unexplained high engine reving without my foot on the gas. Not going to veer off with more on that lol.

The thing now is, I like the pro and trail hunter so that’s going to be a tough choice. Hoping the snorkel can be added to the pro, that’ll make things a little easier. Well that, the price and the test drive.

Alot of first yr unknowns here. Hate constantly going to dealer for warranty work recalls,TSBs. The later yr 3rd gens are pretty good.Toyota has shown that trans shifting isn't liked and see no good.
proof that the new model will be any different esp with electric , turbo added in. The aftermarket tuners will be slow catching up esp if new lockout is present. Guinea pigs needed. Thx
