Meh. Should have been a conversation had in person that went “hey I would like to have you come in 10 minutes earlier, would really help with work flow. Is that something you can swing?”.

made it way more awkward in the text format.

I don’t think they are wrong for asking for a start time change though, just a strange way to ask for it.

ETA I’m assuming you will be clocking in and getting paid if you show up 10 minutes early…

Leadership isn’t for everyone. Definitely a conversation to be had in person. More so, if you clock in earlier you should be compensated unless you have some type of agreement with the guy.

Those texts seem overly annoying. I would clock in right on the dot everyday to fuck with him

As long as you’re getting paid that for those extra 10 minutes, sure. Poor delivery on their part but at least there’s a written record of it in case it’s ever needed.

Don’t lose your sanity over it though. If the job is already stretching you thin with the OT, then fuck them.

I would follow company policy and start at the designated start time that you were hired to start at, regardless of if someone told me that I "would get noticed immediately". This guy's sounds like he's micromanaging, manipulative and intrusive. You are not obligated to respond to any off-work communication, in fact it's usually in your best interest not to do so. I'd give them eight hours and after you shut the car door, that's it. Also, I would put distance between your work and coworkers and your after work social life and activities, there is an old saying "Familiarity breeds contempt."

That guy texting you is creepy as hell. I’d let Hr know if anything needs to be said, say it on company time.

Legally, you begin working when you clock in. If you work full time 10 years, 52 weeks a year, 5 days a week and you multiply it by 10 minutes that comes out to 433 hours of unpaid work equating to about 11 weeks. This is why class action lawsuits take place. Your manager is definitely getting himself into hot water. Especially with verifiable proof.

Start time is the start time, i would count the time for the conversation as chargeable time worked being that its work related. Good work ethics is important and being on time shows you are serious about the job. With that being said, in my opinion if you were there 10 mins early and took their advise they would just find another reason to complain.
