Warning concerning Toytec Boss 2.0 Aluma Series Coilovers! These pictures are from a 2006 Tundra dbl cab. The coilovers are less than two years old and have never been abused. 97% pavement and about 3% gravel roads. Absolutely unacceptable. I would remove them from my truck immediately if you have them! Broke while driving 20mph(thank god!) on the pavement.

I really don't understand how that's even possible. It looks like the shaft just sheared off at that point, but all the force on it should be compression so it doesn't really makes sense. They even have a pivoting top hat to allow lateral movement as the wheel cycles... Maybe there was a manufacturing defect in the metal shaft.

think your right about manufacturing defect given how half of the shaft is smooth.

What does the manufacturer have to say about your experience?

The lower mount was not seized and still turned smoothly(mount bearing on black end of Piston shaft). Toytec didn't want to know anything about it. I think it's a defect.

We experienced a total failure of an earlier version of the Toytec boss kit on our FJ . Disappointing with only 20000 KM. I'm sure our product failures were not common but .

I really don't drive the truck in a way that the strut would top out so no I don't think that is the cause. I have a dirtbike for that.

Toytec doesn't want to start any type of investigation or even look at the parts(I live local to them in Colorado). Elka says Toytec needs to handle it. This is why I really posted the warning. The manufacturer and seller are not doing anything. It's a safety concern.

I'm running the 2.5 Toytech BOSS....
Fingers crossed I don't experience this issue.
I've actually not heard of this before this post.
Shame neither Toytech nor Elka want to help you out.

Not sure of the lift height you have. Any spacer added to lift? Stock bump stops? Shearing strut lower attachment has happened across many brands

Truck has SPC UCA and Camber adjustments with a 1" diff drop. Coilovers are set at about 2.5-2.75" of lift. The rear has an add-a-leaf. No spacers. Stock bump stops.

From a machinist perspective, I don't see any sort of relief or runout for the last thread and it looks like a stress riser started at the root of the last thread. Improperly designed.

I should have added that sway away is now owned by afe power. If you need new parts for it you would order through them.
