Side stripes on 89 XtraCab SR5: Painted or decals? Gradient or one color?

Current truck is a 23 AccessCab SR. I used to have an 89 XtraCab SR5, similar to the only below. I would like to add side stripes, like the 89.

Does anyone know or remember - were the side stripes painted on, or decals with clear coat over top? We’re the stripes gradient (light to dark) or just one color?

The originals were stickers.

 

Thanks - it’s been 25 years since I sold the truck. I don’t remember the stripes ever peeling or chipping, so I couldn’t remember if they were decals or not.
