I went down the rabbit hole. Worth it, for me anyway. Seat is MUCH more comfortable and I sit about 2" lower so I can see out my windshield better.

My only issue is with my right leg sitting against the console. There is a sharp edge that I have to place my leg against while on a trip in cruise. Looking for some sort of thin pad to stick to it. Any ideas?

Anyone try removing the headrest pressure plate on a 3rd gen? I saw people with 2nd gens saying it makes a big difference. I would think #5 on the diagram.

Alright my journey to fix the uncomfortable seat is finally done, I think. I’m 6’1 ~200lbs for reference.

    Mods in chronological order:
    1) Desert Does It Front Seat Jackers. Seemed like the universal recommendation so I tried these first. They were better than stock but my leg would still go numb on long drives and my lower back would hurt. I might just move these to the passenger seat. Price: $99.99
1.5) Random seat cushions from Amazon. None of these helped and were in fact usually worse because I’m tall and would hit my head on the roof. Price: Varies
    2) 949 Steering Wheel Spacer. This actually helped a lot but was a bit awkward to use the control stalks and my partner who’s 5’3” found the truck hard to drive. Overall a good mod but too many compromises so I removed it. Price: $345 (inc tax + shipping)
    3) Added foam to the seat bottom. I had a professional upholstery shop do this, they added a layer of memory foam and lengthened the seat bottom ~1”. Leg pain gone! Back pain still there. :( Price: $225
    4) Removed the pressure plate from the seat. Big difference in getting rid of my lower back pain. What a terrible design. Truck is now reasonably comfortable for me. Cost: Free

Can you point me to a thread or procedure you used to remove said plate?

This thread from @TRDSlow has good pics. You just unbuckle the seat cover bottom, unzip the back, remove the 2x 10mm bolts, then snip cable.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Mine is 2016 TRD Off Road. Have had it 3.5 years now. Yes, the seat sucks. Too low, and does put pressure on the thighs.

I am 6 ft 1 inch, 190 pounds. I have major back and neck issues, in fact 3 years disability and several hundred medical treatments for it.

So with that said, what worked for me and still works 2 years later is something like this wedge. Not the same brand as the one I have, but the same design and exact shape. The cutout saves your tailbone from any impacts when off road, which for me is 35+ hardcore trips from spring to Fall. Before I got this, my tailbone was killing me off roading. Now, zero issues.

The angle is great too as it raises your butt so you are not so close to the floor, and in my case takes pressure off my thighs.

I have zero comfort issues now that I have one shaped like this. The one I have is quite firm, which is great. If it is too soft and sags at the backend then the whole idea is defeated. If the cushion has the tailbone cutout, but is all one thickness, then it provides little to no benefit.

The wedge shape with about 3 inch thick at the back to only 1/2 inch thick at the front edge of the seat works wonders for me and cheap. I bought mine from a local medical supply store in the Okanagan, BC. The 3 inch at back is no issue for me even at 6 ft + height.

Again, this is not the exact brand I have, but the same shape/size.

Last weekend my wife and I went for a 5-6hr drive and the next day my hips and legs were screaming at me. I'm thinking of trying the seat jackers but hesitant because I'm average height and weight. It seems that either really short or really tall people benefit from installing seat jackers, are there any 5'11" 160 - 180 folks that have had success with them?

I'm closer to 195 than 180, but in the same height range. I've had great success putting the rear jackers in. It make the seat angle more comfortable for me.

5'11" 170 lbs replaced both seats with Scheel Mann Vario F standard height (tried the XL but it was too tall for me). No dash lights. I am working on a youtube video covering the install and defeating all the sensors/dash lights.

I would not ask people with an entire lifetime-difference of body-weight, nerve-issue, different-height, etc issues how my seats work best for me.

Try seat jackers ... you can remove them if you need and sell them to recoup some of the cost. Try foam pads put on the butt-cushion ... not sellable but life is about trying things that may not work.

There are a lot threads all over tacomaworld (some helpful, some not so much) about installing aftermarket seats into both 2nd and 3rd gen Tacomas but very little info on scheelmann seats+planted brackets. It appears that you installed scheelmann seats using planted brackets.

I am nearing the end of an install of a pair of scheelmann Vario F seats into my 2nd gen Tacoma and am pretty much done. My only issue is that the planted brackets "tall" version for the 2nd gen sit way too high for me and I am also 5'11". Did you get the "short" version of the planted brackets for your set up or the "tall" version? What all did you do to get that sweet spot? Any information you can provide is helpful.

    Thank you.
