Crush washer stuck

So.
I had a 2017 V6 and every time I changed the oil the crush washer (OEM crush washer) was stuck to the oil pan. I just traded it in for a 2023 V6 and decided to do a break in oil change at 2000 miles and the crush washer was stuck to the oil pan too, not a big deal but I do have the TRD pro skid plate and as you can imagine it makes it a bit difficult to pop the old crush washer off.

Does anyone have the issue with the crush washer being stuck to the oil pan?

 

I just bang on it with the edge of a screwdriver. Does it everytime. I think it is that blue coating. Happens on all my other cars as well. I agree not a lot of room to work with that little hole in the skid plate

 

Yes it always happens. It's easier to pry from the inside diameter of the washer.

I've been using Dorman 12mm / 1/2" copper drain plug gaskets P/N 65271 for the past 5 years with good results. No leaks on either of my Toyotas. It's available at most auto parts stores.

They always stick.
Unless the black coating is compromised, I don’t bother to replace it.
Haven’t changed the one in my truck since new.
I found the new first time crushed gasket tends to loosen up. After that the torque remains.
Do what you want but 90% of the time it’s stuck.
A narrow putty knife works well and doesn’t gouge the pan.

 

If it bothers you just put a thin coating of anti-seize on it or get a Fumoto and never mess with it again.

 

Is this all thats left to discuss these days? The "oh so discomforting and disheartening dilemma" of a crush washer stuck to an oil pan?

 

I use OEM washers and they stick every time (but they seal great). I have the standard skid plate and use a gasket scrapper to get it off (comes right off with none left on). If you can fit a flat head screwdriver in there it will work just as well. It will pop off with no material left on. Hope that helps.

 

I've been using these Harbor freight crush washers for several years on our RAV and a friend's Hyundai. I just flip it each time and reinstall. Never a leaked drop. Now using one on my '23 V6.
