Zevo stuff did the trick. Bombed the hole packed with crushed rock. Done. Hung a trap, trap got a bunch.

Assholes were on me so quick, amazingly fast with no real time to react. Thousands of them. I first thought I had just like 3 stings, then 6. But oh no, a whole bunch!

I merely touched the ground with my hand digger mini pick to dig a weed out. So weird it's like their laser guidance was on my right leg and that was it - no stings anywhere else. Hurt like a mofo first few hours, but no hive bumps or wheezy breathing, just a bit dizzy. Wife pumped me with Benadryl. It worked but sumagun did it itch for days. Ugg. Sleeping the first night was tough.

Wasps do some good, but - yellowjackets and bald face hornets can't be near humans much! Paper wasps don't seem to bug people.

I've had my share of yellow jackets too. About 50/50 chance I see them swarming and sometimes I've been able to run quick enough to get away. A few times I've gotten my ass eat up. When I do find a nest I will usually slip back after dark with a flashlight and fill the hole with foaming wasp spray. Usually does the trick and gets the bunch. Heard of folks gassing them etc but the spray seems to do the trick if applied liberally.

 

Winding down here now. Beans about played out. Squash, tomatoes, peppers and okra still going fairly well. Last week or so yields below. Been sharing most of this beyond what we are eating. Wife put up 14 pints of salsa. Have enough tomatoes for another batch that size. Sunflowers dying and birds all in them. May sit out there and try to get a few doves when the season opens. Probably be plowing most of it under in the next few weeks.

Yea ,the tops get those deep creases for some reason

 

Yeah and you look up online for fixes and they tell you, you watered them too much or not enough, fertilized them too much or not enough. Got too much sun or not enough. Soil Got too hot or not hot enough

 

Or you just get lucky...like me

Living here in northwest connecticut all was going well till August, then the rains came, and keep coming. Had some great heirloom tomatoes till then after starting them very early. Currently the tomatoes are worthless tasting waterlogged fruit. The rest of the garden is doing fine. Got the hottest jalapeño peppers I could remember. They add some kick to my spanish rice with ground beef. Just picked my first ears of sweet corn this morning, and ate some this noon.
