Hello, after a very long production time wait, I picked up my 2023 TRD Off-Road with the 6spd m/t. Since driving off the lot, I can hear a whine or high pitch hum coming from right below the shifter/top of the gearbox. Happens when just letting off the throttle or when just applying the throttle and only lasts for a second or two. Sometimes will start if barely applying throttle and will instantly go away by just pressing on the accelerator. It's a very heavy-duty feeling manual transmission compared to the older Tacomas I have owned so im hoping it's a normal sound of the gears meshing or something?? Anyone else experience this??

Hey there Chris, and welcome to TW.
    I don’t own a 3rd Gen so I can’t speak from experience.
But there been a few people report the same “whine”

    Here is one example.

You may also get more replies and answers if you posted your question in the 3rd Gen section.
It is much more active than this section of the forum.

Here is the link to the 3rd Gen section.
    Maybe ask there.

I have a very slight noise but it's very easy to miss. Give it 30-40'000kms to break in and change the oil in it at 10'000kms and go from there. In my experience this transmission takes a long time to truly break in and if the noise stays the same/doesn't get louder then i would I wouldn't worry about it. It's a refined transmission but a truck one or as you described it "heavy duty feeling" one nonetheless. I've towed, hauled and otherwise ran it hard and put it away wet many times and if anything shifts smoother than when it was new so I would chalk it up to gear mesh and such
