SAFETY (NONCOMPLIANCE) RECALL 23TA08 (Interim Notice 23TB08) - Multiple 2023 Models - Driver Airbag May Not Deploy

Remedy Not Available
Description
In the affected vehicles, the spiral cable assembly in the steering column may lose its electrical connection on the circuit controlling the driver’s airbag. If this occurs, the airbag warning light will illuminate, and the driver’s airbag may not deploy in a crash. As a result, the vehicle will not comply with certain federal motor vehicle safety requirements and may increase the risk of injury to the driver in the event of a crash.
Remedy
Toyota is currently preparing the remedy for this issue. When the remedy is available, Toyota dealers will inspect the serial number of the spiral cable and, if necessary, replace it with a new cable FREE OF CHARGE. At this time, Toyota estimates the remedy can be made available in August 2023.

Update. Built 8/14 arrived at the dealer in Pasadena 8/18 and picked it up toady 8/19.
Maybe they were racing the hurricane. Saw 2 fully loaded carriers full of Tacomas on our drive up there from South OC this morning.
Thanks again to DragonPro for providing updates that the dealer was slow to share.

 

I certainly appreciate this thread as it kept me occupied while I waited for my truck to arrive. I also feel for those stuck waiting on a vehicle hold, I hope they all get cleared and arrive quickly. My experience was I used Toyota's search to look for any allocated trucks in the area with the features I wanted starting back in March. I found one with everything I wanted allocated to a dealership 30 miles away as of early June, it also had a few port options I didn't really want but wasn't upset with. Called up and put a deposit immediately and was told the build date was scheduled for June 16th. Monitored and confirmed a permanent VIN over the weekend that followed. I received the call that the truck arrived on August 11th, picked up on the 17th. I am located in southeast Pennsylvania, only mention that because end destination seems to make some difference in time frame too. After reading through a lot of this thread it seemed like unless there was a vehicle hold, 2 months from build to arrival at dealership was a pretty average time frame. Best of luck to everyone waiting for their new baby to arrive, for me it was totally worth the wait! My specific truck is a TRD OR 6MT MGM DCSB with premium and advanced technology packages, I didn't see a lot of 6MT with both those packages being built but happy I found one.

 

So “Vehicle Hold” means recall, damage - fixing something

What bums me out all the Toyota-tracker sites say my VIN isn't good. I get a error (3TYCZ5AN3PT157351) - although @DragonPro23 was able to pull info and my dealership told me it was in freight - they didn't mention the hold.

I guess my question is how could it be on hold and in freight at the same time? Seems contradictory.

Sat at that port (placed on hold from May - July and lord knows why else) until 8/17 & picked up 8/18
