    Anyone used ASFIR skids??
Decent price for a full skid package but the website says it’s only for the trd. I have a ‘22 sr5, would the skid plates still be compatible ?

I looked them up, and I'm not really a fan tbh. Price is on the high end.

Most of the TRD only skids I've seen are because of the fuel tank skid. They attach directly to the tank straps.

You can buy oem tank straps with the bolts on them. Should be the only difference?

Look at CBI, rci, Cali raised or something though. I went with bamf, oil changes are gonna be a pita, but they'll have the best protection.

Do I *need* a torque wrench to install this thing or is a regular old socket set going to suffice?

I don't know how to add photos here. It's the TRD Pro skid. Thank you!

Torque wrench lets you match the specifications. But remember that you can slide under the skid using the 9+ inches clearance to check/adjust easily.

I talked to them for a while at MOORE Expo in Springfield, MO. They are shipped from the states and he said that most skids are in stock. I wasn't a fan of the owners/representatives I talked to. I told them that I prefer steel skid plates for my application because I slide over very sharp rocks and I've seen vehicles get hung up on aluminum and not sliding. I don't disagree that aluminum skids will work well for many off-roaders and customers but they kept arguing that aluminum were far superior to steel and that everyone that runs steel skids are not educated and that the only skids to be ran are aluminum. For those reasons, I will not run them. Plus I paid a lot less for my steel Ironman skids that have held up to two years of rather extreme abuse!

    *Edit*

Bah, I added that to the middle of the quote. My answer is in there. I'm not gonna rewrite it or try to drag it down on my phone though

I saw - thank you! This was pretty much my plan already. Just wanted a little validation...

To me the torque specs on OEM skids feel a little light. But those skids don’t offer much protection either. By hand to where it feels right is way past 22 on the big bolts. I take them off once a year for oil changes to make sure they aren’t siezed and avoid stupid charges for easy stuff. I am lazy and don’t change my own oil because it’s once a year and I like to have a dealer checkup once a year so I overpay for that.

Yeah np man, anybody telling you you need a torque wrench is gonna be the same kind of guy who insists that only the dealership knows how to do an oil change.

General rule, if it spins or has a gasket, make sure the torque spec is right. Tires, head gaskets, stuff like that. With just a piece of metal attached to the car, just make sure it doesn't fall off. Better over spec than under, right on the money doesn't really matter.

    4 run, 2 don't
Although I normally recommend (and prefer) steel for a skid plate over aluminum, they're priced pretty damn well for being 1/4" aluminum.

They're also well-known in the LC community.

IMO...If you think you are actually going to need skid plates - get them steel. If you are afraid of the curbs at the mall, aluminum is fine.

No, you don’t need a torque wrench for non-critical applications. The good old very tight and not too tight to snap the bolt is good.

but if it is a critical component, YES.
