awesome, thanks! If I’m happy with my stock height, are the shock kits direct replacements?

What you asked about is a lift kit. I guess the front shocks would work but why? Do you need to replace your shocks because they are worn out?

Just buy an almost new pair of someone's Trd offroad shocks from the TW classifieds for $100.

    You just saved $800

The TRD lift kit front shocks have 3 height positions to choose from, roughly 1" - 1.5" - 2", so my understanding is that the minimum height setting on the front shocks would give you a 1" lift in the front no matter what. Rear shocks should be the same height if that was all you installed (the 1" lift there comes from the spacer).

That said, MTB58 makes a good point.

Hard to search for this (generic terms, mountain of results) - so apologies if it's been asked already.

Is there an off the shelf AAL/Spacer kit that's compatible with this (OEM TRD lift), the way this Revtek kit is with the OEM TRD Pro lift? That Revtek kit is for coilovers, I'd like a similar thing but for the OEM TRD lift we're discussing here.

My truck is a kid hauler and not my daily driver, I'd just like a touch more room to be able to fit 285s (and because it will look cooler).

Hey all, long time reader of this thread. I finally pulled the trigger and got the TRD Lift kit installed by one of my local Toyota dealers. I love the look and ride of the truck a lot. However, I noticed just the other day that the coil springs/coil seats are installed in the wrong orientation. The left/drivers side is completely 180 degrees of where the base of the spring and spring seat should be according the installation instructions of the TRD lift kit (should be facing the rear), and the passenger side is about 90 degrees off. My question is if this is cause for concern or nothing to worry about? Is it even worth my time to go back to the dealership and have them turn the coil springs to the correct orientation? I was told multiple times that the shop foreman installs these kits all the time.

Welcome and congratulations! Not sure that there would be any long-term issues, but if you're like me, it's always going to be in the back of your mind. I would absolutely take it back to the dealer and have them make it right. Just because they install them "all of the time" doesn't mean the tech that did it ever did it before. It's not a big job so it shouldn't take very long. Just show the service manager your photos.

Let us know how it goes and post some pics of your rig when you have time! ;)

Thank you @TRDRed! Indeed, it will be on the back of my mind for sure knowing it's not correct, so I will be contacting them soon to hopefully get it remedied. Here's a couple pics of the Taco with the TRD lift kit installed!Tacoma Side Pic.jpg Tacoma Front Pic.jpg

I personally would get it corrected ASAP before it starts making the popping noise. So yes get it fixed and don't wait.

I went out to double check I did mine correctly... Phew!

I don't recall reading anything about that rearward facing requirement, I just made sure the springs lined up with indentation they had left in those top hat buffer thingies (anyone got any of them technical terms?).

Is there a particular reason they need to be oriented that way? First though is that forward facing gap looks like an ideal place for some gravel or debris to fly into and get all crunchy.

    @TRDRed @VaToy
Thank you both for the recommendation to get this fixed. I just had the dealership remedy the incorrect spring/seat orientation this morning and they had it completed within a couple hours. No charge, as it should be since it was on them. I also provided the kit installation instructions specifically pointing out the correct way ( page 7). Definitely will have the peace of mind knowing its done correctly this time.

So I've gone a little nuts since installing my TRD lift a few months ago and went full "overlander" mode with bed bars, rooftop tent, awning, roof rack, recovery gear, camping gear etc. (not to mention I've got a steel bumper w/ winch and rock sliders, too... plus 2 adults and 2 kids...).

Needless to say I'm overloading my leaf springs when fully loaded (front end set at 2" is holding up fine though as far as I can tell). Any recommendations for reinforcing my leafy boys in the back? AAL? Helper? Whole new pack? I've got 20k miles on the stock leaf springs so far. I'd also like to avoid having to upgrade shocks already (i.e. I'd like to avoid anything with over/extended travel if possible).

Would be nice to get back to level (or even a little rake) when fully loaded. Appreciate any suggestions!

When you start adding weight, new leaf packs seem to be the way to go. Reach out to one of the leaf pack companies to get the right ones. Others will likely chime in with recommendations. I've gotten by with progressive AAL's with my trucks because I have not added much (really... any) full time weight.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm reaching out to Deaver first as I've seen them mentioned a few times. Definitely hoping for other suggestions (or anyone in a similar boat with an existing TRD lift)!

I installed the Icon RXT springs in the rear with my TRD lift. That way as I add more weight, I can switch the spring configuration around to accommodate it. I’ve been more than happy with the new ride of the truck. 1000% better than the OEM setup.
