Does anyone know if there is anyway to permanently disable the steering wheel lock on a 2000 Taco. Yes, it is my truck, I added push button start and I want to avoid any worry of the steering wheel locking. I had to remove the ignition switch but I assume that is not enough to disable the steering wheel lock.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
You have removed the lock cylinder and the housing completely to access the electrical part of the switch??

The arm on the housing is what locks the steering column a very simple design.

when the key is inserted it moves the arm.

It has been some time but looking at things it is easy to see.

Well the lock cylinder is still available but the part behind it, the cylinder rod, broke which i believe is what actually moves to lock/unlock the steering wheel … i dont want to replace the rod as it is not necessary for the push button start

If the rod is removed will it not just continuously move back into locked position

Did you install the new chipped key push button start system?

You have this in front of I can only go off memories from when I rebuild a truck that was stolen.

    Everything being destroyed.

I am sorry you are unable to figure out how this works.

Good luck maybe some one has a steering column all exposed can explain things better.

The new push button start is installed and working great … I guess my question is does the new push button communicate with the steering lock since there is no physical key to move the ignition to unlock position … sorry to keep on about it and appreciate your help … im just not sure how steering lock works with a push button
