I replaced all 3 U joints on the rear drive/propeller shaft. Only after did I realize the center bearing assembly has some play in it, so I ordered a replacement. Since the middle joint needs to be separated to I install the bearing, will I need to order a U joint to replace the one I just installed? Or is there a way to remove them without damaging them? Probably play it safe and order a new one, but would rather save a bit of $ if possible. They have not been greased yet. Thanks.

You should be able to remove the U-joint without damaging it. What type of tool did you use when you installed the new ones?

I "rented" this one from Auto Zone. Removes and installs U-joints.

Yeah if you use that style of ball joint / u joint press just be nice and you should be able to uninstall and install u joints without damage. Just make sure the needles stay in their cups properly during install so you dont crush things.

Right on, thanks. Looks like I had that exact press from O'Reilly. Mine wasn't exactly 90 degrees though so that was a little challenging. I used an impact driver since they were hard to press manually. Also, none of the attachments really work for this application, looks like you didn't use them either? The receiving side is large enough for the cap to fit trough if aligned properly. Thanks.
