Not really! 45 days! Don't buy a Gates belt. It looked old when it went in, but I didn't think it really was! I'll find the as-new pic tonight.

Yikes, 45 days? Where did you buy it; a few years ago there were many reports of Amazon selling counterfeit "Name Brand" belts and pumps; genuine Gates belts are usually solid.

Time to check the tensioner and that all the pulleys are in alignment and don't have any burrs.

And it was Amazon. Our AutoZone had nothing. It replaced a Continental, which was their best. Grey rubber, no feel to it. I am back to a nice black Continental.

Tensioner has plenty. Idlers replaced with water pump last fall. Everything spins nicely. Grooves sit square. I'll be painting my striped edge, to see any edge wear. I can't find any slicing edges that would hurt it.

After casting about a bit for quality parts for my previous car (a 2006 Acura TL 6MT with north of 200,000 miles on it, a car I loved), I ultimately settled on Rock Auto for my parts; they're prices were right in the same ballpark as Amazon, but were ALWAYS "genuine" parts from the brand in question, and not counterfeits.

I've used them quite a bit, when the order covers shipping. I've never had a fake part from Amazon, but this one would be no surprise! Return is out, but I'll write a GLOWING review!

    Sadly a counterfeit.

Amazon will buy from a dozen wholesalers and toss them into a common bin.

It made it super simple for counterfeiters to supply and not get caught. There have been discussions of a label to track supplier and lot number, but not sure if they implemented it.

    Gates with AC $22.89

    The OEM belt is $38

Too much odd trivia in my head.

    Afternoon all:

Just got done mailing all the required info. to Sunoco to get a refund for the battery, now I'll see if the games begin or if they will just simply honor the warranty without any BS! :fingerscrossed:

The whole reason I started this belt thing, is because I had ordered a "spare" Continental, and last night it hit me over the head. All my complaints about potential starter problems, might really have been this belt slipping when cold, it started right after replacement. Only happens when it's been sitting, so could never duplicate it for any one. (Don't start with it was all in my head!!) The guys that replaced the plugs, noted I should consider a new belt, and it was only a week old. As of last week, it still had all the grooves. So, that close to throwing another grenade into poor Little Big Red!
So, now I see if the problem is gone.

Well, first full load starts ok. Wear bands marked, so I can easily see if I'm losing an edge again.

I've literally run a serpentine belt for 80 THOUSAND miles beyond a dealership mechanic recommending it be replaced... just to see if he was full of **it. Rubber products are usually claimed to be good for eight years inside an engine compartment, but we all know they will last longer.

I'd be checking the alignment, tension, and bearings where the belt tracks.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Reminds me of the old Midas Muffler commercial with the old guy rolling into the shop with his model T Ford to get his lifetime muffler replaced again...

My wife and I moved a lot in our early years. We found it easier to buy used Maytags and resell them for what we bought them for rather than move them interstate. Never had a Maytag that gave us any problems. When we moved here we bought a brand new set for $500 and they've been excellent. Lots of friends and relatives have bought expensive, upwards of 4K a set, front end loaders and hated them.

Pretty sure that Maytag guy had a territory that included everything west of the Mississippi and I can understand why he was lonely...
