Well… fine. I went camping and neglected to share some photos. Last trip on the old wheels. But on the new suspension.

 

How do you like the Elka setup?

 

I’m actually pretty happy with it to be honest. I didn’t set out wanting Elka for vanity reasons but the shop basically talked me down and said I was looking at equipment meant for racing and pursuits I didn’t have in mind.

Which was actually pretty nice for a change. Not being upsold… that is.

Ride quality is a bit hard to explain. I have the IFP 2.5 kit. It’s firmer than than the OR stock kit; but in a supple way. It soaks up the bumps but it doesn’t dive or sway with brakes or steering.

it did mean I could hit the FSR with way more speed than in the past… and still feel control on dry gravel. Washboard; could feel it but again, it soaked up some vibration and meant the steering seemed in affected.

So… firm… ish. Able to keep up with bumps and really soak them up.

 

We drive a lot of gravel out here on the coast to get to our outside playgrounds - I currently run 5100’s but want something that really smooths out the washer board as it can get pretty nasty at times. A co worker put an Icon setup on his new ranger and said it was like butter on the gravel so maybe that might be a better option - so many choices

 

Yah I wanted Icon and got talked into this. I am running an Icon RXT with overload … and then the Elka 2.5.

I was specifically told by several folks I trust that Elka has a dialled setup for our rigs right now.

But I do like the look of the Icon gear. It’s a big spend if you want something … tuff to go back and forth.

 

Is it pretty sad that I got a perfect alignment at my Ford Dealer? (Recommended by WestCoast Off-roaders).

Tech came out to talk to me to tell me Toyota had not been lubing/greasing anything. Not ANYWHERE.

Safe to say I haven’t been at Toyota for a year now. But.. he said the Toe was seized. So that is what fuc*ed my complete set of tires.

Alas. Toyota makes a good truck. But… why is their service so unbelievably re-fuc*ing diculous.

 

Some dealers are good, Williams Lake, others, cough, cough, Penticton, horrendous.

 

I get it. I have talked to a bunch of good techs at off road shops that all started at Toyota.

……. sigh.

 

Anyone getting out there now that Fall is rolling in?

 

Got out on the trials motorbike last weekend for an epic ride - didn't get any campground pics though

Where were you getting your taco serviced?

 

For regular Maintenance I am modding my own now. Are you on the North Shore? I have one Rocco I could provide if needed.

 

No, I'm in Vancouver - but thanks anyway, I'll keep it in mind - I'll probably try out Granville Toyota (where I purchased my taco) and see how they are. The google reviews seem to be ok ** crossing fingers **.

 

as long as JP doesn’t own it. You should be fine.
I once serviced mine at destination Toyota in Burnaby. Was actually really good.
