Recently picked up a tacoma, currently have some worn out BFG KO2s that need to go. Ive been looking around and I'm not sure what tires to get. Planning on taking the truck on logging roads and trails in BC, Canada. I was thinking maybe another set of KO2s but I've heard they're useless in mud, I dont plan on going mudding but I want something that can handle some mud if needed. Regarding snow, only get it for around 2 weeks a year usually if even that and i dont plan on doing much offroading in the snow. Size im thinking is 265/75/16 and i dont really have a budget, willing to pay a good bit for a decent set, seems like average price is around $400 CAD per tire. What tires are you guys running currently and what do you think about them?

For FSR’s and general off-roading in BC KO2’s are a good all rounder.
I wanted to get wild peaks but that’s out of budget for me.

Our terrain is mainly rocks, gravel, and mud, hard soil, and generally never a large patch of mud unless you are at stave lake or similar.
I have done some light mudding, and found the KO2’s to be average with mud.

I have 2 sets. A dedicated off-road tires, and street tires.

Off-road: LT 285/75/17” Firestone destination MT. Amazing off-road, below average on pavement, and god awful on wet pavement to downright dangerous.

Street tires: LT 265/65/17” KO2s. Jack of all trades but great at none.

It really depends on what your use case is and what your priorities are.
Do you go off-road nearly every weekend?
Or is the truck a work/family truck that occasionally does the monthly FSR run/camping?

I just bought the truck 2 days ago and have yet to actually take it offroad because it needs some maintenance and with how worn out the KO2s on the truck are, probably not a good idea to go off the pavement at the moment, also has a few issues that will be resolved asap. I'm honestly not sure how often I'm going to go out 4x4ing with gas being at $2/L right now but I'd like to go a few times a month if I can. I do want some tires that are at least somewhat decent on the road as the tacoma is my daily so maybe another set of KO2s would be a good idea. Thanks for the message

I’ve always been a fan of Toyo Open Country AT2’s… I’m on my second set. They are P load rating so I probably wouldn’t do much heavy off roading, but would trust them on fire roads.

I've got the AT2's on my Tundra. I'm a huge fan. I bet the RT's are even better.

265’s will work, no rubbing, no cutting. Good OEM size with. No issues

I ran 33 without rubbing. If 35 rubs then grab a hammer and saw.

M/T tires suck in snow, compared to snowflake rated A/T.

A/T tires (generally) suck in mud, compared to M/T.

Pick a priority, and purchase accordingly. KO2s, Duratrac, Wildpeaks, you won't go wrong with any of them. Each will have rabid supports and detractors.

Yokohama Geolandar X-AT's. Not promoting but I am trying them. So far so good. I like BFG's but these are allegedly better in snow and quieter........waiting for winter.

Yeah I can run 33s without rubbing but I think I'm gonna go with 31.5s for my first set

265/75/16 is a good size. They are only slightly larger than stock, but with no downsides. In fact that size is often cheaper than the smaller stock size.

Which tire you get is always a compromise. The best mud tires are poor in rain, snow covered pavement or dry pavement. They cost more, wear out faster and ride poorly. The closer you get to a street tire the better it will perform on pavement but will be poor in mud. Most of us look for something in the middle. There isn't much real difference between any of the moderately aggressive AT tires in mud.

Goodyear Duratracs, wear like iron if you rotate them properly. Not to loud until they’re worn out and they’re great in the winter.

Some people on here love this Bridgestone revo3 plus it's a lighter tire . Idk this looks like a great option since I mostly drive on roads
