Seems like all you read about here on TW for months and months was fellas drooling in anticipation of the Magnuson Super Charger being released, now it is hardly mentioned.

Did they just sell the kits to the every person who actually wanted it and that was it? Or did it turn out to be less than spectacular for the cost, compared to say a tune?

I don’t have one but I’ve done a fair bit of research on the topic and it seems that most reviews said that it is underwhelming and not worth the money. But again, I can’t speak from personal experience.

I forgot that. I’ll have to do a deep dive. I’m always curious of the results when people have the guts (?) to make this drastic a change to an engine.

For the price, install, rework, tune, maintenance hassle, versus the output,,, it doesn't sound like the juice is worth the squeeze for many.

Do the third gen magnuson SCs have access to different pulley sizes like the 2nd gen SCs do, as the consensus on the 2nd gen thread is that you need to go with a 2.8 to get the “spectacular” type benefits we all want with a SC. It seems foolish to purchase a SC and not go the 2.8 route. I think that’s the question I would like to know from the third gen crowd, if you went with the Magnuson, did you also go with a smaller pulley, and if so are you still unhappy? If that’s the case, then it’s easily a hard pass for me.

To me, it seems OK with the OTT aftermarket tune. but then you lose warranty.

I likely would have got it if it was more perfected out of the box. I think i'll just keep my truck as is and upgrade to 2024 model eventually which will have more torque and better MPG's.

I would say it's only worth it if you fancy doing the install yourself. The kit itself is already overpriced for what you get out of it and to add labor on top does not make it a convincing buy. I will say though the install instructions are VERY detailed and can be done if you are okay with taking your time and not driving the truck for a few days or have another vehicle you can get by with in the meantime. This is coming from someone who is not a mechanic and I already had the tuning dongle/tactrix cable from when I bought the OVTune so the tuning part after install was a breeze otherwise you will probably have to pay to have someone flash a tune for you which is an additional cost.

Another factor to consider is how long you will keep the vehicle, I plan on waiting til 2026-27 to get the 4th gen so to run the SC for the next few years is OK with me plus I can revert back to stock before selling the truck down the road, just always keep your stock parts.

Where'd you hear that? The TVS is made by Eaton and the OEM supercharger on a lot of cars.

It's a great supercharger and if the results are lack luster its from the tune/boost levels. Not the blower itself.

Yea, I haven’t heard anything of that nature either, quite the opposite actually, they do require a rebuild every now and then, including new oil, but that’s a given.
From what I’ve heard the magnuson SCs for Toyotas are extremely reliable and made to last, which may also explain why their performance output is a bit to be desired.

I've got right around 15,000 miles on my Magnuson with Yotawerk tune and smaller 87mm pulley. No issues so far. It's a big investment, but I plan on keeping the truck for many years. Also the improved drivability to me was worth it. Does it have the power of a V8? LOL... No. But I knew that it wouldn't going into it so I'm not disappointed. Would I buy it again? Yes.
