You might want to consider what kind of vehicles you see today... that have appreciated enough to justify storing them.

Early '70s Charger or hemi Cuda. 67 thru 69 Camaro. Early Shelby Mustangs. A very few limited number oddballs.

I don't know of any trucks that have really appreciated in value like those examples.

I've wished I bought and stored late sixties muscle cars starting in the late seventies. I bought and sold GTOs, Chevelles, a 442, and others... when they were running well and less than $1000... but I'm still not sure they would have paid for the storage and other costs.

    It's your money.

Edit: And if any Taco will appreciate in value it will be the 2nd Gen Baja Series access cab...

There is a TV show called Chasing Classic Cars that had a 30 year old Toyota Truck with like 1200 miles. It didn't bring anything close to the expected Auction price, may have been because it was a 3.0 V6 AT combo.

I think you’ll make more money by putting the truck to work.
Use the truck as a “tool” to generate income.

I don’t suspect a Tacoma to bring enough money in my lifetime to make it worth it.
I’ll be 40 this month. Have no kids. Have no interest in maintaining a “Collector Tacoma”.
For me. I don’t think it’s a wise financial decision. I think I could make more money buy not purchasing a “Collector Tacoma”.

With EV’S becoming more popular and prevalent with each passing day, I could see a mint condition 2023 Gen 3 with a (soon to be a relic) internal combustion engine becoming a sought after collectors item. It really is the last of its breed as far as Tacoma's are concerned.

Exactly my thought. Last of the tacomas to be related to the ancient 70s-2000s model Toyota trucks

I know I’m going to catch some hate for this.
But I really think the best Tacoma to purchase for a collection as of now, would have been a 2015 Pro.
    Not many produced comparatively.

The best way to do this is have a large income/net worth. Buy or rent a warehouse to store several vehicles. Search across the country for particular vehicles (and rare signs like vintage gas station signs). Collect and sit on them until you are old. It works, but you have to be extremely savvy to guess and know what is going to be worth money in 30+ years from now.

I was a personal mechanic for a car collector. He owned over 30 corvettes, Ferrari, muscle cars, etc. Almost every car had a story as in it belonged to someone famous or important, was in a movie, etc.

You may want to get a better spec. I can see a trail edition or a pro or any sort of fun color manual edition to bring major money 30 years from now when we’re all in pods

Get a mint ‘85 - no plastic engine parts to rot or wires for mice to chew.

If you never drive it on the road you don't need insurance or a tag. But it could still get totaled even if never driven. I'd have insurance on it. You could get a very good rate if you explain that it isn't going to be driven.

But I still think buying one is a poor investment.

Comprehensive insurance is important even if you don’t drive it. Plus tax and registration. And if you don’t at least start it up regularly and put just a few miles on to keep all the parts moving and in proper order it won’t be worth crap. And now that I said that you’re driving it minimally you now need liability insurance (unless you have a lot of land and can drive on a private road). Oh yeah, fluid changes aren’t just based on miles, time as well, as they can degrade just sitting there.

I’m sure some Tacoma nut (like myself) would love that truck in 30 years. But the value increase will likely be less than investing that money even in conservative choices (savings, cd, money market).

if you do it anyway and make a mint you can laugh at all of us. But if I’m alive in 30 years I’m sure I won’t hear you anyway.

I have always bought vehicles to drive and enjoy. That being said, an Access Cab with clamshell doors might be a rarity down the road.

Find a mint FJ or a real original model FJ45 LC is where the money is

i really wish i had bought a 1968 new HILUX. We sold them new for $1300 stick, no air and added radio for $69 and rear steel bumper with dealership name for $69.

Probably should not have sold it, but not having any room in the back really sucked with grown kids. It was a manual with the TRD SC'er. Damn fun truck for sure. I probably have sold at least three vehicles that will be worth some good money in the future. The Baja tacoma, 98 Integra Type R, and a 05 Mitsu EVO MR.

I have a vehicle that I keep. It’s a hassle trying to keep it low mile and also in good mechanical condition. My insurance offers “storage” rate and it’s cheaper than what haggerty and such charges. That being said, tacoma doesn’t have that “it” factor.
