Just faced the same event.. "1st oil change". Dealer put 5k 10k on sticker on windshield at deliver... maintenance minder started coming on at 4700... I made appointment for service and service advisor apologized when I got there that he did not tell me on phone that the oil does not get changed until 10k they would only be rotating tires and check8ng fluid levels today... so I seized the opportunity and had them install wheel locks since they were rotating.

It comes full syn from factory and advised to be done at 10k.

I did my first at 1000 just because I'm old and that was the way I was taught.

It's your truck and your money, so do what makes you feel good. I did a change before 5,000 miles and then another at 5,000.

Every 10k with any brand of synthetic and your motor will go 500k miles

Yep. Toyota says every 10k miles. That's what I'm doing. You think they want to keep changing engines? My Tacoma came with a lifetime powertrain warranty. I assume all do?

I did mine at 1000 and then every 5k. I enjoy changing it. It’s fun. I can afford it and I drive the piss outta my truck. Do what you want. It’s your truck. I will say if I was clocking mainly highway miles and no dusty country roads/off road I’d change every 10k.

I did 5K Miles. Still starts every day. Will I ever regret it? Not as much as not greasing all the grease nipples you can.

Yep. My 23 doesn’t have any zerks. The 4Runner is the only one in my small fleet of vehicles that still has ‘em.

Might as well ask which oil do you guys use? I know its 5-20W for my V6 but I meant like brand. I used Valvoline Premium oil for my old 4runner, but it already had miles on it so couldn't say much. Is there any brand you have been using for long time and seen good results? I don't care about price when it comes to giving my truck best.

The worst thing about oil change threads is the use of 'piece of mind' vs 'peace of mind'.

10k changes for me, if it blows up I'll buy another one. :)

FYI all 0W-20 are synthetic. 2nd, you can't say your motor will go to 500k. These aren't Toyota motors from late 90's/early 2000's. Ain't no 2grfuks going to 500k, without major work along the way.

I like Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum….if I can find it.
    Have used for:
    115k on 06 Ranger
    100k on my Camry
    60k on 4Runner

I did use Mobil 1 on my 08 Tacoma for @120k. Without issues.

    Dave. Dave. Dave.

Most people on TW won't keep them past 70k anyhow, not sure why they're so concerned.

LOL this drives me nuts too. People can be so illiterate.

I don’t drive enough to change by miles, so I love these threads. I find it hilarious how many people have a complete lack of understanding of the nuance behind changing intervals. Toyota tells you when 5k is appropriate and when 10k is appropriate when using GF-5 0w20 oil.

A modicum of research further can take the topic into an entire other universe of complexity when you start considering oils of different weights that meet specs beyond GF-5.
