rule of 72. At 10%, the investment will double every 7.2 years. 40,000 will be worth 320,000 in 29 years. I don’t see a mass produced pickup worth that in 32 years.

Its also a small market for someone looking for a "mint" mass produced truck. Still be better off investing in Gold.

Are we even going to have gasoline readily available by then? My guess is in 40 years then answer is no.

I guess it depends on the OP's financial status. If he has more money than sense, then why not get one of the last Gen 3's to come off the line? But if things are a bit tight with expendable funds, then putting the $40K into gold and ammo is probably the smarter play.

I think ICE vehicles are going to end up like film photography as time passes. . Regardless of the success or failure of EV’S, there will always a subset that want to restore / drive ICE cars as a hobby just like there are folks out there shooting pictures on film.

And there is about a 100 years of infrastructure in place for producing and moving gasoline, so gas ain't going nowhere for a good while. It's just going to be pricey. Think Mad Max!

You would be ahead buying something else. Hell, buy video game consoles and leave them in the box put away. Easier to store.
40 years from now brand new PS5's in the box!

Buy $45,000 worth of gold instead. Or a small plot of land.

The US shale basins have breakevens which will maintain domestic gasoline prices under about $6/gal for the next roughly 30+ years.

    Edit: (not accounting for inflation)

Problem is they won't go after it, they'd rather beg the Arab nations to produce more. If I recall they currently have frozen all oil exploration/drilling leases in the USA. They WANT ten dollar a gallon gas.

    Most leases are private.

It’ll just get more expensive. But we in the US have at least 30 years of economically viable domestic supply.

Just the fact that the idea of using a 3rd Gen tacoma as a long term appreciating asset crossed his mind tells you everything about any common sense

Same in a lot of the worlds regions. Venezuela or canada alone could keep all of North America going
