Rear lower driver side shock bolt is gone

I was driving to work when all of a sudden it sounded like my leafs were squeeking. I went out later just to look everything over and my lower shock bolt on the drivers side was gone and the shock is just hanging there. We thread locked it and torqued it to spec too......no clue what happened, but anyways I am trying to verify what the size of the bolt is so I can get a replacement tomorrow because I doubt toyota will have anything in stock because they never do. From all of my searching I only found that it's toyota part number might be 91552-11260, and the possible size of the bolt is M12 - 1.25 x 35mm cap screws (metric size bolts) but should be shorter than 35mm. And I know it needs to at least be a class 10.9. I will still try toyota just to check, but I wanted to see if anyone knew the correct size. I will change the locking nut to a nylon locker this time for extra security.

damn seems like a normal thing, I kept hearing funny clunk from rear, checked to day and found my bolt and nut from left shock disappeared. now for the hunt.

 

Hey brother....this same thing just happened to me on my brand new '17. What did you end up doing?

 

It's a M12, 60mm long, which is about 2.5" long. I'm not sure of the pitch. I just cut mine out today, and had to pick up anything I could get. So I ended up with 7/16 x 3" long. I cut them off after I put them in. There is room to leave the bolt long if you can't cut it right away.

 

Thanks! I was able to get a similar bolt installed to get me by for a day or two until the factory bolt I ordered gets to the dealership.

question for you guys... so I found the bolt (part number 91552-11260 on page 189) however I cant find a number for the nut. its not in the parts list PDF referenced above. Thoughts? Thanks fellas

 

Ace hardware will have grade 8 nut or better that will fit, but probably not a flange nut. So you'll need a washer. Chasing down nuts and bolts is a PITA, but dealer prices are ridiculous.

 

Does anyone happen to know the part number for the bolt for a 1st gen? I have a 2000 and this same issue happened to me today--walking around the back and noticed the bolt and the washer were gone with the shock/strut hanging down in place.

I'm sure I can find an aftermarket bolt and washer (there's no nut since the bolt goes into the mount, which is threaded) but Toyota parts guy says the bolt isn't sold separately which can't be right.

I’m having the same issue.

 

I had the same issue on one of my trips up the AlCan, also lost the bushings. I think it happened somewhere around Prince George, so I babied it all the way up to Whitehorse- by the time I got to Ft St John, everything was closed. Stopped at the Nissan dealership up there and found a bushing, got longer bolt at Grainger. For some reason M12-1.25 does ring a bell. Once I got settled in, I picked up longer bolts and replaced them both.

 

I somehow lost my rear lower shock nut as well. I just wanted to confirm after replacing the nut (which I couldn’t not find an OEM part #) it is M12-1.25. I hope this post helps someone else from making that second trip to the hardware store.

 

Curious if everyone losing nuts and bolts have replaced their suspension themselves?

If so, it's a wise move to go back and re-torque all your nuts and bolts to spec 250-500 miles after installation.
