    I hope you're right.
I don't know what difference that makes but now that you mention it I'll have to research this.

not worth it. not even close.

$1,000 in 1983 money is equal to $7212 in today's money.

if trends continue exactly the same(which is a fair ball park), it means that in 40 years, you would need to make somewhere near $122,000 on the truck to break even, not allowing for property, insurance, heating/cooling, or other storage costs. there'd also be selling costs involved with what would usually be an auction sale. whereas any savings account with $40,000 in it-- most are at around, 0.02% interest, which would net you a cool $40,320 with zero additional costs/hassles.

can you name any non-special-edition vehicles from 1983 that are trading hands at $120,000? i can't. even most of the special interest cars are trading hands at the $30k-80k mark.

Unless you are buying it to save it for your children .. it makes no sense. I think your children would prefer if you gave them car you are using now, its how it is usually. Besides there are so many tacomas out there i doubt it will become collectors item anytime soon lmao.

But do what makes you happy man, we live in America:cool:

30k invested at a measly 5% return compounded annually will net you almost 130k in 30 years.
No way a dusty 2023 SR5 with no miles and lot rot will get you that.
Its just a silly idea bro...not trying to be harsh, but you can do much better.

Put that $ in a Roth, in a fund like Vanguard Total Stock Market and you'll have 5-10x of tax free $ at 63.

Because as @Chew suggests, if you don't maintain it along the way you'll just have a barn find. Even a 3x purchase price sale, reduced by maintenance cost will be a pretty dismal return

It's a plebian vehicle produced in the hundreds of thousands. Not a low production GT40 or Dodge drag pack car.

Buy a $35k painting or other original artwork instead...it will hold its value and be easier to store and maintain.

Besides the posts saying there are a hundred easier ways to invest the same money and get a better ROI, this is the post that makes the most sense. Provenance is a huge boost to the value of any collectible, and you really have to know what you are doing. Other than your speculation, what reason do you have to believe that this truck would be a worthwhile investment? Are you an experienced car collector? If this is just a WAG it's a very expensive one.
