So I literally replaced my belt tensioner back on July 25th. All was good in the world, was a huge PITA but got it done. I opened the hood today to check all fluids and noticed a huge string of belt sitting up above top rad. hose. I look down and notice where the rear 1/8" of the belt is fraying off again??? WTF

Could I have the alternator off enough to cause this? in my mind, seems to me the pulleys should all line up due to the mounts they all mount too(AC compressor and alternator?

Now its driving me mad- thanks for any and all help!

    They “should” line up.
But a worn pulley or idler can cause a belt to be pushed one direction.
Have you check the other idlers and pulleys for wear?
Not just play in the bearing, but actual wear.

crazy thing is this wasn t an issue until I swapped belts from OG OEM belt to new belt thinking at 65k it needed changing due to age.. then this all started also both weere OEM belts...new one is a Continental belt made in Germany

    Strange.
So you never had an issue with the original.
But changed it for maintenance purposes.
    Then it started eating belts?

I’d inspect the all the pulleys for wear or build up of belt material.
    Especially the idlers.

Not sure but if this is the only new belt you put on mavbe you had it on one of the pulleys 1 tooth/slot over.
And no offense but is the belt correctly on all pulleys following the hood diagram easy to run one wrong side.
With the truck idling look down and see if all aligned - keep hands away of course.
Are the other 3 tensioner pulleys OK as they can cause this so with the belt off see if all spin smoothy and no play.
And did you spin the other driven items like PS, alt, AC and all OK.
And if you did idlers too and aftermarket maybe you misaligned with a washer as some posts on where to put them.

Put the old belt back on and go from there.

My belt lasted 10000mi before snapping off the other day . Noticed my idler pully between PS pump and water pump had rubber built up on idler inline with groves in belt  . I routed the belt under the idler pully instead of over pully. :facepalm:Good think I was about a quarter mile from home and belt didnt damage anything.

Sometimes the bushing that goes through the bearing may be on backwards, visually check that the belt covers all the grooves.
