The minivan engine does “ok”, Toyota has been sticking car engines in their trucks since the beginning, the current V6 is no exception, after 30 years of driving these chick trucks I am used to it, but what I really wanted was a diesel.

What I want and what I can have are two different things.

Nope, just fat really. I mean I have 265/70-17's and a 1/4" spacer on the front, and 1.5" AAL with air bags, but not lifted or big tires in the traditional sense.

Dirty gauge cluster screen really drags the MPG's down I think. I'm afraid to clean it after seeing how easy it scratches lol.

I am running 265/75/16s. No lift, with the air dam.

Dirty screen is definitely bringing down the mpgs, lol! It scratches super easy, my old Toyotas weren’t like that, could drag a rag across it without much care.

My commute is mostly flat, when I do go to the mountains does loose quite a bit, but gain it back coming back down.

Sorry, but the 4 cylinder is also a minivan motor.

Guessing the vast majority of the almost 2mil Gen 3 owners w the V6 could give a squat about what someone else thinks about their torque-curve, as 8yrs later they’re still flying off dealer lots….But you make a decent argument for why hooking that electric motor and it’s 184lb ft of low-end to the 3.5 would’ve been the one we all would’ve wanted. Sadly couldn’t happen.

Tough sell offering a 4cyl w an extra 50lb ft delivered at 1700 over Toyota’s V6, but in a few months it won’t matter b/c if you want an all-new Taco improved in every other way, that’s what you’ll get, unless you go hybrid $$.

And the vast majority of 4g owners won’t be complaining and the new tacos will fly off the lot just like the 3g does. And the best part is that the 2.4t is an improvement in every way over the 3.5

Except, potentially, for reliability and longevity. I personally would wait until the hybrid to become more available in say, 2-3 years.

Still blows my mind anyone is defending it after seeing it get so much flack when the 3rd gen was released. That's all everyone talked about. Who knew we would see the day....

Also how have we gotten to a point where you can put specs of 2 motors side by side, one wins by a large margin, but since it has 2 less cylinders it's now a piece of crap? Lol.

It's got more torque at a lower rpm - sweet!
It's got the same hp - nice
It gets the same or better fuel economy - nice
It's 4 cyl - oh hell naw get that thing out of here

That has been said many times here. It's baffling. Guess they need at least 6 cyl to feel relevant as an adult.

Im buying the 4g over the 3g for the new transmission. Hopefully manual in the off road but anything has to be better than the 3g auto.

3.5 is not perfect, neither was 1GR, but you can assume either is a better choice than the basic 2.4T. Independent of really tough emissions it’s unlikely Toyota would’ve dusted off an old school turbo 4, and as surly as some Gen2 owners were in ‘16 (and clearly still are..), not many bk then asked for their 4 liters to be replaced with 4 cylinders

If real world mpg on the 2.4T isn’t significantly better, then you’re looking at a bigger letdown, b/c you already conceded NVH & reliability in exchange for 50ft lb @ 1700rpm.

Really excited for Gen4, but I’ll seek counseling for my apparent childhood insecurities and recommend holding the V6 until the hybrid proves itself.

Toyota may bring this to Southeast Asia market to replace HIlux work trucks there...maybe beyond?

Think the T4 will be awfully nice for us slow guys who don’t like to rev the snot out of the engine. Regardless of fuel economy or longevity. Off it when the warranty is up.

Not revving the shit out of it, it should in theory get a bit better mpgs. If it could get a solid 25 consistently under my foot, I’d be pretty happy. Though I keep on looking at Tundras, which have double the trouble…
