Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Amusing!
    I like the officer's demeanor.
When you're speeding, you're speeding. Kinda fruitless to argue most of the time.

Every state has some sort of lift laws, most are different from the next. The whole point of a lift being illegal is purely for safety. For example, a state may say any lift above OEM is illegal. However, they won't stop guys with 2-3 inch lifts. But they will stop the guy with a 23" lift made out of 2X4's. It's a safety thing and making it a law keeps law enforcement from having to prove it's a safety hazard. Same for window tint. Safety. Same for Carolina squat trucks.

Let me get on my logical soapbox for a minute please:
    I have 100 people
    They all drive Tacomas
    99 of them have a 1-3" lift
Those same 99 also have normal window tint
Those same 99 also have off normal road lighting
And lastly, those 99 are all going within 5mph of the speed limit.

Now I have this one Tacoma owner
Driving 20 mph over the speed limit, windows blacked out with spray paint, with his two billion candlepower off road light bar on, lifted seventeen inches with a 4X4" fence post, and he is texting to boot.

That one guy is why we have 99% of our laws. Most people have some sense. Laws are for people who do not.

Having been through this with previous trucks in AZ, the only thing I can see that is "illegal" about his lift would be not having rear mudflaps with the tire extending past the wheel wells, been nailed for that one a couple times over the years.

I was way in the past when I was much younger and it was way more important to look cool. You know like my 85 Toyota with the giant lift and 35's that would barely climb a hill with that 22R but looked cool as hell. LOL

I've been driving 50 years. I'm not one to push things too much but have paid 3 speeding tickets in that time. The 1st one I was doing 55 in a 45. Honest to God I thought the speed limit there was 55.

On the last one I was driving on a very good 4 lane with a 65 mph speed limit, but I knew the road narrowed to a curvy mountain 2 lane in a couple of miles with a 45 mph limit and no chance to pass slow vehicles. I was overtaking a slow moving truck and sped up to 75 to get around him before the road narrowed. Just as a trooper came out of nowhere. I'm guilty.

#2 happened 23 years ago and I'm still pizzed. And of all places it was in Arizona. We were in northern AZ heading east toward the Four Corners area. I drove past an abandoned car that an AZ trooper was checking out. He finished his business and got behind me. For nearly 50 miles. Speed limit was 65, cruise control on 64.

I could see a stop sign roughly 1/2 mile ahead where the road ended, and I had to turn left or right. Saw a sign saying, "Reduce Speed Ahead". I'd already turned cruise off and planned to coast the 1/2 mile to the stop. Next sign said, "55 mph limit". I was doing 55 by now. Not 20 yards past that sign was one that said, "35 mph limit". He hit the lights and wrote the ticket. That was BS. Yes, I was doing 55 in a 35, but you shouldn't have to slam on your brakes and drop 30 mph in just a few feet to stay within the speed limit. And there was no reason for a 35 zone in that spot.

How did he legally determine the bumper height is illegal without stating the legal height or measuring the actual height?

Quite a few counties in AZ have been sued for "policing for profit" for stuff like this. But there are still a bunch of areas still marked like this. There is a spot in Huachuca City where the speed limit drops from 65 to 55 going down a rather-steep hill. At the bottom it drops to 45. You HAVE to ride the brakes quite vigorously to be able to do the speed limit. Except the Tacoma...just let off the gas with this flying brick. Notorious spot for speed traps.
