Today I installed some new stock 3+1 leaf springs in my 2nd gen Dclb (dorman variety). I made a 1” block spacer with a 1* angle milled into it. I installed it to give less nose up angle on the pinion flange. Measured angle of first driveshaft and got 7* nose down ( truck was not level and done with analog inclinometer). My center bearing rubber is in pretty decent shap with 1/2” droop, so angle with a good bearing maybe 6.5*. Measured the pinion angle and got 7.5 nose up. It would have been 8.5* with a flat block. Driveline experts say to expect 1-2* of axle wrap under load on a moderate street vehicle with moderate leaf springs, so plan to add another couple degrees to the wedge block to give me 5.5* nose up.

have seen lots of speculation here on what to expect with lift blocks and pinion angles, so thought I would share some data.

EDIT: Thought I would let the springs settle over night and drive over a few bumps to be sure I got the numbers right. Good thing I did. This morning, the front shaft is 5.5* down and the pinion is 4* up. Again, did not level the truck so these are just relative numbrs. So, the 1* nose down wedge seems to be just right for the 1" lift via the block. As long as I get .5* or greater of axle wrap under load, I will be in the +- 1* range of matching operating angles.
