No, we've talked about it. Our roof is very steep and high, the chimney is doable, but would be a challenge. If I'm not comfortable doing it myself, I tend to procrastinate. Should have done it as soon as the emerald ash borer struck. We have a neighbor across the road that was widowed in her mid 30's with two kids 10ish years ago. I've supplied them with wood for a while, so it doesn't get wasted.

My prescription sunglasses are so old (I wear them daily) that the lenses are starting to craze and crack where they meet the frames. I guess I need to get new lenses.

TLDR: I think it's going to be okay. For now, let's say the Fiskars was a good buy.

I didn't love the fit, it wasn't as tight going on as I would have liked, so I mixed up some fiberglass and added that to the handle. I think it would have been okay if I'd left it at that, but I read on the internet that soaking the head in oil would swell the wood for a tighter fit, so I tried it. That may have worked without the fiberglass, but it made the head loose. I had a few extra inches, so I started over. Second time around, I'm very happy with the fit, nice and tight with just a wooden wedge running lengthwise. However, in use it still slips about 3/32", so I ordered some conical steel wedges to try. I'm also waiting for some large diameter shrink tube so I can install some overstrike protection, which is just some used 14ga solid copper wire I'll wrap around the handle then shrink in place. After that, I'll have about $4 invested in it, and we'll try again!

I think a large part of the problem is the shape of the head. With a good wind up, this one tends to really bury itself in the wood, and working the end of the handle to free it puts a lot of stress on the eye. At one point yesterday (in one of those twisted buggers), I thought I was going to have to cut it out with the saw. I ended up getting it out using two wedges, a sledgehammer and my other maul. :ballchain:

Have you guys ever considered ordering glasses online? I don't know much about it (i only need cheaters), but my wife has bought a couple of pairs for a small fraction of the price compared to the optometrist. :notsure:

I got these lenses when I was 45 years old. I got the RayBan frames many years before that, in a buy one frame get the other frame half off deal.
I am so strange... Some things I will buy and pay list price, other things I will use, re-use, fix, re-fix again until it is worn down so much there is no more fixing and then not replace until I can get a smoking deal.
For example, I have a quart of wood stain (used it a few days ago to stain my wife's bag box I built) that I bought THIRTY ONE YEARS AGO NEW to stain the changing table I built for my baby daughter! She just turned 31 so I know exactly! I have stained 20 or so objects with this quart and I still have an inch in the bottom of the can! I moved down here four years ago and brought all my paints and stains with me. I am a cheap bastard on some things for sure. But, in the past 40 years, we have not bought hardly any store bought wood things like frames, tables, chests, boxes, headboards, etc. I even built our dresser. I did buy my dining room table at a yard sale three years ago, knowing it needed a new top, because the base frame was as good as I can do and it only cost $50. So, I cheaped out on that, are going to refinish the base and spend $$$$ on the wood for the new top.
But, I know my limits. While I could technically build a refrigerator, or a stove, or a lamp, I wisely let my wife tell me what to build, or not.

God only knows what my house would look like if I never married 40 years ago. People would come in and go "Why is your refrigerator made of wood?"

I just realized this week I'm alloted $250 yearly for ANSI 87.1 safety rated glasses to include sunglasses, thank you very much! I'm in my 3rd year on this contract I've already missed out twice. Wont happen again.

My glasses are cheap as it is a single lens. Like less than $150 for frames and lens.

Wouldn't you get glasses with side protection for the one day a year you had to go out of the office to take measurements on something? I don't look at it as cheating, I look at it as a pre-determined benefit, agreed upon long before I got here. After all, Safety is no accident.

Yeah technically, but I use my glasses to see things far away so I would have to take them off to see close up! Then I only need cheaters.
    Funny story...
The only time I have ever had to have something removed from my eye (metal splinter) was when wearing a clear face shield and the old school clear goggles with the holes all around.
All the other times with no protection? Nothing in eye. It means nothing, sure, but apparently that metal shard just was not going to rest until it stuck in my eye. The odds of it going under the shield and hitting one of those little holes and then hitting my eye in such a way to stick it, big odds.
