Still cool if your truck is all scuffed and scratched?

If you think this paint is thin and soft, you should see Subaru paint. My wrx has the thinnest, easily damaged paint I have ever seen. My wife's Kia has tougher paint! I know it sucks dropping so much on a truck just to have scratches before even signing the paperwork, but I prefer to accept it and move on since it will inevitably occur anyway. A few years ago I purchased a new motorcycle and a month later I watched someone drive right into the back wheel while it was parked and it roll and fall over. It really sucked but I realized it could have been worse if it happened a few seconds later as I was standing next to it about to throw my leg over. Point is I repaired all the damage and still loved the bike just the same until I traded it in earlier this year for my new dream bike, and I plan to love my truck just the same regardless of any imperfections on the exterior. Not sure I will be trading the truck in though as this one is definitely a keeper!

    Great. Enjoy it.
    But you said this
"Brand new 2023. Left and got rained on and didn't notice the crazy etching left by the rain/sun on a black truck and how bad it was until 3 weeks later. Used some vinegar. No avail. Used chemical guys water spots remover but hesitant to use it on the whole truck since it's basically brand new. Just going to say fuck it and take care of the big ones and say it's a truck. It's going to get rained on again and I won't be able to wipe it down everytime like on trails and what not. Any advice?"

And our advice a long time ago was not to get black. To keep black paint looking good requires just about continuous care. Like show car care.

I luv my black truck, I have washed, clay bar, compounded, polished and put on a coating. Looks new.. 2016, except a scratch on the tailgate someone decided to leave me. I did a quick polishing but still can make out some of the scratch.

I'd rather take scratches so I can get to places like this to kip up for the nights. Necessary evil to be able to go be able to see and stay at these places that others can't/don't.

True. Doesn’t mean I won’t be detailing my truck the next weekend though. The longer I keep my paint in good shape, the longer I can avoid peeling and having to have it re-painted. Plus detailing it is pretty zen.

When we picked up our Taco at the dealership, it was inside their big garage with nice bright lights. Wife noticed a bunch of scratches (which just needed buffing), and they couldn't get their guy to do it in a timely manner, so we ended getting a 2 way long range car starter out of it... Comes in handy on the coldest days of winter.

I still don't see the scratches to this day....

I like a clean vehicle. My wife complains that I'm gonna wash the paint off of her Subaru.
I like the chemical dudes stuff - got some of their orange-spray-n-wax and it works well.
I also use their micro-fiber drying towels and they work like a champ.

Just detailed the interior of my 2021 it's in showroom condition. Washed the wheels to bring out the
shine on my new Wildpeaks. Paint still looks good on it and I'm in Arizona and the truck is parked outside
all day long not an inch of shade on it.

I wash it about once a month and dry it right away with the towels and use the spray-n-pray-orange-stuff
    and it looks darn good.

I'm a bit anal about my vehicles - we are paying a lot for these things and I want them to look good.

After they are paid for - well that's a different story.

I am with you - that's what we bought our trucks for - but some folks are really into how shiny and new their trucks look under those mercury vapor lights in the mall parking lot. What I don't get is why spend extra $$$ for an off road vehicle that you don't want to take off road for fear it will get dirty and scratched up. I mean why not just get a 2W, slap big AT tires on it and some 4X4 decals to make it look bad a$$ and save the bucks. Maybe even a nice plastic skid plate and some nipple rings.

Having lived in snow country. Washing is key along with 4 wheel drive. I don’t plan on going off-roading but could. The snow is the real reason.

“Perfection is the enemy of great.”
Can’t remember where that quote came from but it’s a good reminder.

Black is a hard color to maintain. If I were in your shoes I’d do a professional ceramic coating and call it a day.

It will be so much easier to maintain on a daily basis especially if you have that much jacked up junk in your rain.

I just had a detailer do the ceramic coating on my rig and it’s a game changer. Looks amazing also.

    Congrats on the new truck!

PPF...no better feeling on the trail, or the daily exposure on your paint.
