I skipped the tune. Once I went 35s, fixed it mechanically w/ a 5.29 regear and shifting is on point.

    Gears are a much better choice than a tune, and I wouldn’t do 4.88 I’d do 5.29.

Do the tune first. KDMax or similar. Then see if you need to regear.

I was in the predicament. I just got the new 4:88 gears running 33" tires, i can tell you day and night difference.. I will drive the truck as is, then decide if a tune is still needed. but as of now, i am very happy with the results, shifting and power its a lot better now.

I agree! Not a good idea to fix a mechanical issue w/ software.

In case it's not already obvious, an ECU tune and a diff gear ratio change are not mutually exclusive and have completely different effects. If you are looking to change things like engine torque/horsepower curve, transmission shift points, throttle pedal mapping, etc., get the ECU tune. If you are looking to have lower or higher overall gear ratios, get new diff gears. If you want all of the above, get both.

Since a ECU tune is way cheaper than new diff gears, it seems like a good starting point if you are simply interested in increasing general drivability without worrying about the details.
