LOL are you in Cleveland (Metro Toyota) because it JUST DISAPPEARED off the face of the planet yesterday? I cannot even find it anymore. I thought I took a screenshot of it. I am 99.9% sure the dealership I went to last night had it and I get there and they are like "White offroad with standard? Nope dont have one of those"

it was an out of body experience. Was I IMAGINGING it??? There is one in youngstown that is black that is pending sale. That one wasnt pending yesterday midday. Sheesh I might have to get over my want to get a manual transmission.

Seems you’re better off finding a clean 2nd gen and updating the stereo and creature comforts

I agree with everything you said. The worst part of the interior of ANY newer car are the massive iPads slapped onto the center console. My wife has a new bronco and the screen is so incredibly distracting while driving, especially at night.
Sometimes less is more. I miss the days of my little Pioneer three inch x one inch screen with nothing but Bluetooth. Most people use their phones anyway so having a drive in movie screen in the truck is not only obnoxious, but redundant.

I dont know..I cant buy a used cleveland tacoma that is for sure.
Ive been driving a 2007 Kia Sedona 14 years (Which I honestly love but the Cleveland rust monster is killing her)

I plan on having a 15 to 20 year relationship with this truck.

I just got a very large bonus from work. It is my first ever bonus from any job in 25 years. (I have been there a year)
It is a Toyota so it retains value.
I dont have to wonder what is wrong with the car.
    The 2023 is well refined

I am also going to be towing a 2800 lb camper (Dry weight) with it too

I dont know.. the 2023 Offoad is pricy.. but long term seems like a good bet for me.

I mean feel free to poke holes in my theory.. but I think I am on a good track.

toyotas do not retain value in terms of being $40k the same price new in 20 years.
They simply retain value a little bit better than a German car sending a rod out the block.
    That’s why 1st gens were like $7-12k.
Part of retaining value means having the value of being usable. Unlike a German car with a blown engine. That is $500.

when the old truck is 20yo, it is not going to be the same price as last years model.
You can refer to google. And search any Toyota 4x4 price in the last 20+ years.

It sounds like you’re buying badge hype instead of actually understanding the vehicle. Toyota as a brand began adding garbage into their vehicles in 2005, to include my 2008.
16-23 is largely the same foundation platform, which continues to come with the same problems unresolved.

anything is an upgrade from a Kia, including a wet paper bag. It does not have to be new.

Last time I checked this is a forum of upgrades. That’s what people come here to talk about. Leaving a truck stock there is nothing to talk about.
Spending all your money on the truck leaves nothing for upgrades.
The definition of stock means worst minimum quality to get something on the road. That people then upgrade.
Like a pencil thin shock that has nothing special about it. That you will want to upgrade.

what’s the difference between an old truck with new 6112/5160/RXT, and a newer stock truck? The older cheaper truck has suspension with less miles that performs better.

if Toyota keeps their value so much as you say, then you’d have no problem getting a cheaper older one to try it out, learn more about it, and have a decent set of wheels in the meantime that you’ll either like and want to keep, or hold you over until the next thing, where you can sell and get your money back.

I’d think your problem is getting out of a Kia. That would be my problem. They break, are unsafe, don’t have an immobilizer, and the last time I drove one it had the comfort level of making me want to exit the door on the highway.

    so basically
Gladiator rubicon / bronco / ranger tremor / old raptor / used diesel money for what is now a phased out Tacoma

and not just any Tacoma, but one with a reputation of being called “turd gen” by many people other than myself

instead of a price and payments less than half that for one with a more powerful and reliable drivetrain

you realize it’s the same frame, same suspension, same bad throwout bearing design(if manual), just worse engine, trans, computers and headlights?

you’re gonna do whatever you’re gonna do. But seeing as the thread is a question,
can I take on $559/mo? Yes.
Would I for that truck? No.
And that’s after putting $10k down to trick yourself into thinking that payment is low which it’s not.
what it would be without money down is the true payment. I got mine with basically 0 down and it is about half that.

at least you got an OK APR in todays times.

That will definitely cause an aesthetic issue. Don't think it would be too hard to design around it though. all the campers/shells are custom to each truck/model, so it'll just be a matter of another redesign like they always do. bed racks usually don't go to the back wall, and tons of people let their RTT"s hang off the back or mount them below/over the roofline.

all that said, it'll still be an eyesore lol.

Welcome to TW OP! there's a wealth of info on this site, as well as a hoard of mods you will probably never need but will have to buy once you discover them. As far as the rear locker goes...it's a good item to have if you heavily offroad, or to help your resale, but you won't really see much benefit to it otherwise. Up to you if it's worth the expense. Most people say yes just for the resale aspect.

Welcome, I'm also new to Taco World. I love my Taco. I bought it band new in 2018 for 38k and 15mi. I'm just now going to add some mods. First new tires after 45k its time. Going with Falken Wildpeak AT3W in LT265/75 16 going a touch bigger but not crazy. By firday I'll have my flowmaster outlaw exhaust, K&N cold air intake, Hooke Road rear bumper, RIPP coils. New grille. All chrome will be off of my truck soon. In the spring I'd like to do a pedal comander, the front bumper nothing to wild and add a front camera maybe someone knows something about that here. I'm only doing the rear bumper now because someone hit me at walmart and took off. And the bumper is about the same as my deductible.
