If your joint is squeaking, Its done, and the others likely not far behind

Replace it and the other 2 joints and carrier bearing on the rear driveshaft, grease every 5k miles and never have to replace a u joint ever agin.

    Wow, old thread revival.

I touch lotsa zerks. Sometimes more than 100 in a day, occasionally none.

It doesn’t take much damage to the male zerk to cause grease not to go in. Also if it hasn’t been lubed in a really long time, the grease that’s in there can be rock hard. Sometimes you gotta unscrew it, dig it out with a drill bit or cotter pin bent 90 degrees. Squirt some penetrant in before putting the zerk back on. Sometimes that’ll get it to clear. If not you could try something called a grease joint rejuvinator. Below is the one I use. I fill it with oil & penetrant mixed. Sometimes using a new zerk & moving the part helps. If all that didn’t work sometimes leaving the penetrant in there & trying again next time will work. Meaning I lubed all of them except the one, then next time 3 months later when it’s time to do it again, I lubed them all and the one clogged one took grease after that penetrant was soaking in there.

Use safety glasses. Getting penetrant squirted in your eye is no fun.

If the u-joint has never been greased, my guess is the grease in the passageways of the joint has gotten hard from the temperature cycling. Replace them.

A small nail punch with a concave tip to give it a tap after some squirts of PB blaster would likely work.

Tap on that little ball inside the jerk with a hammer,it most likely will then allow grease too flow into the joint.

What’s with the word ZERK? My iPad refuses to let me type it and corrects it into zero. The iPhone thinks it’s a misspelling too. It’s a grease zerk. Not zero.
