I enjoyed the part of this thread where the subject matter had anything to do with 3rd gens or even Tacomas at all. Oh wait...

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Hippies can’t afford Tacomas! Meanwhile, I bet U-Haul has a few million worth of equipment stranded out there. Along with a few hundred of Enterprises vans.

Just heard from a friend that went to Burning Man. She was able to hitch a ride out with a couple driving a van type RV Sunday morning.

Similar, maybe. I think similar enough ...

France, north coast, near Mont Ste Michel (well known tourist island with an abbey on it). Surrounded by a sandy beach/floodplain. Hardpacked sand until the tide starts in. Starting miles out, the sand starting wetting-down just below the surface, and you cannot walk in it. Worse, you cannot outrun it ... the tide infamously runs at 12 MPH toward the land, outrunning even a horse and people die.

Water and porous ground ... do NOT underestimate it.

I’ve posted several sources including Burning Man’s own FAQ, a journalist who interviewed sound organizers and their 501c3 filings. There has been drama about the fact that artists don’t get paid.

Can you source something more than “trust me bro?”?

I don’t actually care, I’ve never been, but it seems silly.

Burning man is not a free for all. The average ticket is something like $800. Plenty of people make lots of money. No currency is exchanged at the event after it starts until it ends. They trade drugs and pussy for all that! LOL… I guarantee you the mandatory police presence is not free!

We’re talking about Skrillex rocking up alone, without a contract, and play a set. Not Taylor Swift and her Union crew.

If Taylor Swift played I might go. Every year I tell my wife I am going to dress like Cartman and go yell at hippies.

Thank you for a reasonable view of the event. I am pretty much the only one in my circle of friends who has not attended. Same thing; not my scene. I'd rather be mountain biking alone in the middle of nowhere with only my close friends around. None of my friends are living on the dole or trust fund babies, and for an event of 70,000 people, it is left cleaner than some of the lake campsites around here where 100 rednecks leave more mess than those 70,000.
If you're having fun, expanding your mind, meeting people, and not affecting my quality of life, then more power to you! Best of luck to all atendees.

Well, I certainly hope they didn't pay the guy who saw the water saturated mud the week before and said "nah, it'll be fine if it rains again"

You can tell it's a 3rd gen thread though because it's an abject shit show. Good place to add people to my ignore list though, there's always an upside. :)

See this is what you all don’t get. They DO leave the area where the event is clean because that place is sacred to them. It’s the several hundred mile radius around the event that they could give a Fuck about and where they dump all the trash. Shit, they ditch hundreds of campers and full on vehicles on the side of the road. I can’t even leave my dumpsters out because they will pile trash around them even after they are overflowing. I bet you when I get to my shop Tuesday trash will be everywhere and I am 100 miles from the place. They are locust and should be eradicated.

I've never been to Burning Man and will never go but I did take Robert Earl Keen and his band out there in February of 1996 to shoot an album cover. Cold as hell and windy and not a single other person out there that we could see. It was an epic adventure. Here's Bryan Duckworth's fiddle case shot at dusk out there on the playa.DuckworthFiddleCase.jpg
