Bring some familiar items and something he might sleep with. First time with Tessa tent camping I had her crate, favorite blanket and her blanket from the truck. She did better than I did.

Eight hours turned into nearly 10 thanks to a wreck in Knoxville.

But we made it and Tessa made a new friend named Bo. This is the rest period between zoomie rounds 11 and 12. ( Yes. That many, and they weren't done!)

Take Roy his bed. Try and set out some water for him at night. I bought a small fan that I propped up on the kitchen countertop to blow down on his sleeping area. Roy is going to want to probably get up in the morning to pee. Other than that...not much. We took our GSD "Santino" on 20 RV trips over a period of 2 years before he passed away late June. thumbnail-10.jpg

I remember that Santino was your co-pilot in the RV, and life. A couple of our stops are in state camp grounds and a couple are in KOA's and RV resorts. Another concern of my wife is leaving Roy alone in the RV for stops where dogs arent welcome. He has never been a destructive dog, but any concerns when leaving Santino alone in the RV?

Speaking from experience when I had a toy hauler, the screen door will be the first thing to go. Whether the main door is open or closed that screen is there and the material they use is as thin as peach fuzz. My boxer was just lightly pawing it to try to push it open and sliced it wide open.

Good call. Thanks for that. With it being a rental, we can't have that happen.

Gracie travels with us all the time. We were at a resort not too long ago where she had to hang out in the trailer. She did fine. We bought a small expandable baby gate and put it in front of the door when we left. She settled in and we had no problems. Made sure she had food, water, and ran the A/C while we were gone. Came back to this:

I recall the the first time we took Santino camping in the RV he was a little nervous while we were underway. New environment for him, even though he rode in the bed of my Tacoma with a shell everyday. Maybe take your dog out for a spin in the RV first to see how he reacts? We put a carpet runner down. When Santino got older and towards the end he had an "accident" in the RV while we were on the road. The carpet runner got most of it....At the start of our RV trips we always took him somewhere he could get out and do his business and even if it was only a 2 hour road trip we would stop at least once for him to pee or whatever. We rarely ever left him in the RV for any extended period of time, maybe 1 hour at the most. We've never been to a campground where Santino couldn't walk about while on a leash. And we always kept him leashed while in the camp spot. Have a great trip....maybe this will be the start of RV camping for you and your wife!?

That is my hope, but I'm not holding my breath. Roy is no stranger to long car rides and camping. He adjusts pretty quickly as long as he is with me. My wife on the other hand..... one of the stops is in Monterey and we really want to check out the aquarium there so i think we're gonna drop him @ a local daycare while we go just so we don't need to worry. Ypu bring up a good point on the leash. Roy is usually off leash when we camp so I'm sure that will take some adjustment...rules is rules.

Good idea. We once had a Akita/Ridgeback mix, "Mike the Dog". He got kicked out of Doggie Day Care...Montery Aquarium is nice. Tell them you are a retired Teacher for a ticket discount.

With an RV, you have space to bring a crate. If your pup is crate trained, it's a comfortable spot. The other thing about travel is the dog can become a missile in an accident--Riley was over a hundred pounds and when I was rear ended, he ended up in the rear passenger side footwell. Kimo is secured with a seatbelt gizmo.

Enjoy the aquarium. The research arm had an open house they didn't advertise but we were eating lunch next door (it's in Moss Landing) and the Master of their research ship is a fellow motorcyclist and he stopped by to offer us a personal tour. That was pretty cool.

Well, Tessa has a new best bud, Bo. These two have been playing non stop, and when one goes outside, the other waits at the door for the return.
